Sometimes the best lessons happen in the moment! 🌿📏 What started as curiosity about our classroom pothos plant turned into an impromptu measuring activity. The children explored how tall the plant had grown, compared measurements, practiced using measuring tools, and made predictions about its future growth. When children engage in pretend play with their peers, they’re doing so much more than having fun! Whether they’re running a restaurant, caring for baby dolls, or pretending to be firefighters, they’re building important lifelong skills.

One of the best ways to help young children develop emotional awareness is to put their feelings into words.

Instead of saying, “You’re okay,” try:
💛 “You look frustrated because your block tower fell.”
💛 “You seem excited to show me your picture!”
💛 “I can see you’re disappointed it’s time to leave the park.”

When children hear adults name their emotions, they begin to recognize and understand their own feelings. Over time, this builds emotional vocabulary, self-regulation, and confidence in expressing themselves.

Remember: Every feeling is okay—even when every behavior isn’t.
