Educational Therapy Center Out tutors are well trained in Structured Literacy using an Orton-Gillingham Approach in a 1:1 setting including reading, spelling and math.

Educational Therapy Center offers specialized instruction for learners struggling with reading, writing and spelling. Our tutors use the Orton-Gillingham Approach. The tutors are well trained and re-teach concepts in a 1:1 setting. Reading, spelling, and math are taught at an individual pace. Here we do remediation which means we re-teach the missing skills. The use of multisensory techniques sepa

rates us from other tutoring services. Students use the visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic pathways to learn letter sounds. Combining these learning pathways helps students retain the information in their long term memory for a lifetime of use. It is especially useful to a student who has not learned in the traditional way. The instruction directly teaches concepts versus implying the information. Our tutors follow a scope and sequence to ensure all the necessary rules of our language are taught. The same is true for our math instruction. The Orton-Gillingham Approach focuses on the learning needs of the individual student. It is a direct and structured system used to teach reading and spelling. The multisensory lessons and phonics based teaching helps students who have not learned by conventional methods. Most tutors meet with students at our office in Parkville, Missouri. Special arrangements can be made to meet at another safe location such as a library or school. In such instances a travel fee will be charged. Because each student comes to us with varying skill levels and learning abilities, it is difficult to determine a time for completion of our program. Estimates range from 100 to 250 hours of tutoring. Therapy Center tutors have a bachelor's degree or higher and receive 36 hours of training in the Orton-Gillingham Approach. Tutors then complete 10-20 practicum hours with a master teacher. On-going continuing education is also a part of our tutor training program on a monthly basis.

There’s nothing better than hearing that a student isn’t just improving academically, but also beginning to believe in themselves.

Parents, Trust What You See! 👀 School has only recently started, but you may already be noticing signs that your child is struggling.

Maybe reading takes much longer than expected. 📖

There’s nothing we love more than seeing a student begin to believe in themselves. 💙 For many families who come to ETC, the journey starts with frustration. Reading takes too long. Homework becomes a battle. A bright, capable student starts saying, “I’m just not good at school.”

But with instruction designed around how that student learns, things can begin to change.

This , we’re celebrating every ETC student who has worked through the hard days, practiced skills that didn’t come easily and discovered new confidence along the way.
