Happy Sunday HHE Hawks,
What a school year this has been! We began like any other school year, full of promise with milestones to achieve and goals to work towards. The first half went great and we all were able to achieve some milestones and goals, then Covid-19 happened and we had to abruptly transition into our “virtual education” space. Despite this change, Heron Heights Elementary teachers, staff, our amazing kids and their equally amazing parents and guardians took on that challenge and flourished. It was a bit of getting used to, but we worked hard and conquered our milestones and goals.
As this school year draws to a close, I too am closing a chapter and am writing this email blast as your outgoing PTO President. It is a bittersweet moment for me. I've spent the last 8 years leading our Parent Teacher Association/Organization with pride and honor. All the goals that were set each year were achieved and many times surpassed my expectations. I enjoyed watching your children grow, enjoying events and programs the PTO sponsored. My little one will also be finishing her elementary school life, and this has helped me to balance out that bittersweet part of my service with great pride and joy.
I want to thank each and every parent, grandparent and guardian volunteers during my service as President. Because of you, our PTO has been so effective in our goals, not only with your time, but with your incredible generosity. I want to also thank every teacher, staff and administrator that collaborated with the PTO. Your support has made our presence at Heron Heights Elementary even more meaningful. Without your support we would not be as successful as we have been.
For the 2019-2020 school year our goal was not only achieved but will be realized when everyone returns for the 2020-2021 school year. We surpassed our goal for Fun Run fundraiser and will be renovating our media center with new furniture, books and overall accessibility.
Covid-19 has impacted the education system greatly and the impact will be felt in the coming school years in the form of budget cuts and in some school’s staff cuts. We are fortunate that our PTO will have funds to provide some relief for the upcoming school year towards technology, programs and general supplies that Heron Heights Elementary will undoubtedly need. It warms my heart that I can leave behind not only a legacy but much needed aid to make sure the new school year starts off strong.
It has been my humble honor and privilege to serve as your PTA/PTO Vice President and President since 2013. I learned so much and have created several friendships that will last a lifetime. My hope and prayer for Heron Heights Elementary is continued success, lots of fun and the continued creation of great memories.
