South Metro Cotillion

South Metro Cotillion The Douglas County Cotillion takes place annually at the DCSD Legacy Campus.

In a world where kindness, courtesy and respect are often overlooked, JDW Cotillions is recognized nationally as an authority in educating young people in the art of social skills through dance. Social dance is incorporated into our programs to break down inhibitions, teach physical respect, develop confidence, establish teamwork and cooperation, reinforce non-verbal and verbal communication, and to teach students how to appropriately interact with the opposite gender in a structured and healthy environment. In today’s competitive society, those with well-developed social skills have a tangible advantage in virtually every aspect of their lives. These skills empower individuals to feel comfortable with themselves and others and to communicate more effectively, promoting personal growth, confidence, leadership and character. While academics are essential to everyone’s future, similar studies by Harvard University, Stanford Research Institute and The Carnegie Foundation indicate that over 85% of one’s career success is directly connected to one’s social skills. JDW programs are directed by an exceptionally trained staff of instructors, who teach students from primary school age through university, business and corporate levels. Their teaching objective is to build a foundation of social awareness for future relationships and career opportunities. What do students and parents have to say about the JDW Cotillion experience?
 97% of students believe Cotillion helped prepare them for their future
 94% believe the program gave them more confidence in social and unfamiliar situations
 96% of students say the program taught them more about courtesy and respect
 97% of parents believe the skills learned in the JDW Cotillions will have a positive impact on their child’s future relationships and career. 2016-2017 National JDW Cotillions Surveys

The Psychology of Color: BLUE

Our goal isn't to put kids in a box; it’s to give them the tools to navigate the world with intention, right down to the details of their personal presentation.🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

Blue suits are considered the standard in business attire; think about lawyers and bankers. Blue gives off a 'you can count on me' vibe, which is an incredible foundation for building strong relationships based on teamwork and respect.💙

Lady Mary Wortley Montagu was a British author, noblewoman, philanthropist, poet, traveler, and general eccentric.

Known for her prolific letter writing, she is also responsible for transporting and championing the Smallpox vaccine in England after seeing its effectiveness in Turkey (where she lived with her husband, who was the ambassador to Constantinople).

Her words challenged views, her works saved lives, and all the while, she still saw the value of being kind and polite regardless.

The Psychology of Color: GREEN

When our students choose their attire, they are subliminally choosing how they want to show up for themselves and their peers. Color psychology affects both personal mindset and external perception. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

Green lets their peers know they are a reassuring, stable presence in the room. Someone who navigates social spaces with ease and composure.💚

The Psychology of Color: ORANGE

When young adults understand the subtle language of how they present themselves, they begin to build a new level of real-world confidence.🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 Orange attire radiates warmth, approachability, and a creative enthusiasm that makes everyone around them feel more welcome. It’s a color for breaking the ice and building genuine connections.🧡

The Psychology of Color: YELLOW

We love seeing our students find the balance between traditional elegance and their own expressive, modern flair. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

Choosing yellow tells the world that they’re approachable, forward-thinking, and ready to look at every social situation with a bright, positive perspective. 💛

Pre-teen parents know this is the highest form of praise!

In reality, 93% of students believe Cotillion has helped them feel more confident in meeting new people. (Based on our most recent survey results from the 2025-26 season.)

As parents, you know it's not always about what they want when it comes to experiences, but about giving them the experiences that build the skills that will set them up for success in life.
