This past week we had over 50 volunteers attend training at Wings of Valor Lodge. Food Service, Dog Handlers, Operations Specialists, and Ambassadors participated in area specific coaching, including Mental Health First Aid, CPR, AED and First Aid. Each of these dedicated supporters of the mission give hours of their time before, during and after each hunt to ensure a world-class experience. Wings of Valor Lodge is entering its seventh season and has served well over 700 veterans, not including the Veterans from other Non-profits who hunt here. During that time period, we also have had over 250 different volunteers stop by to support the mission in some capacity, donating well over 40,000 hours of service. That's over 20 years of full-time labor dedicated to supporting our Veterans. The majority of our volunteers are Veterans, themselves. God Bless America.

The Veteran Service Organization Collaborative picnic was held on Saturday. We had members of the following organizations attend: American Legion Post 15, The Military Order of the Purple Heart, The Dakota Marine Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the South Dakota Veteran Affairs, Avera Health, Rep John Schubeck, and the Alliance and a few other individuals from various service branches. We were privileged to share more about our mission and give tours of the facilities.

It’s Installation Weekend for SculptureWalk Sioux Falls, and one of the new statues honors not only a particular person but also the veteran community in South Dakota as a whole.

The Spring cleanup 2026 on Saturday proved to be a success. Favorable weather and the combined efforts of Five Legion Posts, the Blue Crew from Sanford, and Parker High shooting club members. A total of 40 volunteers contributed to leaving the premises in top condition for the VSO picnic.

While the lodge may be quieter, the work never stops. Our incredible volunteer dogs—and their dedicated handlers—are hard at work training, preparing for the moments that matter most.

Each retrieve, each command, each run through the field is more than practice… it’s part of creating a safe, successful, and unforgettable experience for the Veterans we serve.

At Wings of Valor Lodge, excellence in the field is how we honor their service. And it starts right here—in the off-season.
