Earlier this year, we introduced our Concierge Services, a program that has proven highly effective in facilitating student adjustment to the unique island life. Continuing our unwavering commitment to student well-being, we're delighted to introduce you to our newly appointed Student Service Coordinator, Mohammad Mirza.

What to expect from our Student Service Coordinator:

- Liaison between students and various non-academic departments.
- Ensure student satisfaction by ensuring requests, concerns, tickets, and queries are responded to promptly.
- Direct inquiries to the appropriate employees/departments for swift resolution.
- Generate satisfactory responses in a timely manner.
- All students will receive a call twice per semester.
- Ensure the school is delivering quality service, so be sure to let him know.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the student experience through various SSC initiatives.

About Mohammad:

Since January 2012, Mohammad has been a dedicated guide, helping students navigate the admissions process with passion and commitment. Originally an Admissions expert, he spent 11 years advising students, significantly contributing to their success in SJSM's esteemed MD program. As our new Student Service Coordinator, he will continue to serve as a reliable and supportive resource for students

“My name is Riddhi Chaudhari, I am from Ontario, Canada. I was a respiratory therapist prior to pursuing my lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. Being an RT previously, I have experienced healthcare from cradle to grave and it was an amazing part of my career! My goal is to get into Family Medicine, and become an amazing primary care provider. At SJSM, that is what BOH does - primary care provider for the upcoming MD1 students, making their lives easier with on-boarding resources, mentor programs, NBME sessions and as simple as 'text me/call me and I will be there to assist you in this beginning of your amazing journey' ". -

SJSM students volunteered at the Malliouhana Resort Health Fair, providing free health screenings and information to staff members! They offered blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, and glucose screenings. They also answered questions about healthy eating, exercise, and stress management.

The students were excited to give back to the community and learn more about providing health education and screenings. When asked, they said they felt like they were making a difference in the lives of the staff members who attended the health fair.

Flashback to our IV clinic! Everyone was so engaged and eager to learn, and it was great to see everyone laughing and enjoying themselves. We're always looking for new and innovative ways to make learning fun and engaging.

SJSM clinical students Sanket Chaudhari, Chris Meus, and Alizainz recently spent a rotation at Humboldt Park Health, where they learned from Dr. Siddiqui about the management of complicated infectious disease cases.

The students saw a variety of challenging cases, including antibiotic-resistant urinary tract infections, treatment-experienced HIV management, tuberculosis, hepatitis C, and hepatitis B. They also learned about the challenges of providing care to patients in underserved communities.

Our students were grateful for the opportunity to learn from Dr. Siddiqui and that they gained valuable experience that will help them in their future careers.

Dr. Pranav Patel, a highly accomplished anesthesiologist with a distinguished educational background and a wealth of professional experience, visited SJSM for a Q&A session with our medical students.

Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies in 2002 and completed his anesthesiology residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine/Detroit Medical Center in 2009. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and has an Advanced Transesophageal Echocardiography Certificate from the National Board of Echocardiography.

He has held various positions at the Detroit Medical Center, including Chief Anesthesiologist at the Cardiovascular Institute/Heart Hospital's Out-Patient Surgery Center and member of the Central Campus Orthopedic Committee. He has also served as Vice-Chief of the Department of Anesthesiology at Harper-Hutzel Hospital and Associate Residency Program Director in the Department of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Patel is a dedicated educator and scholar who has published multiple manuscripts and presentations in peer-reviewed journals. Our medical students were grateful for the opportunity to learn from Dr. Patel and to ask him questions about his career. We are excited to continue to host distinguished physicians like Dr. Patel for Q&A sessions and other educational events.

“In today’s session on “Gynecological Examination”, we learned how to inspect and palpate the l***a, cervix, and how to perform pap smears (cervical cancer). We also learned how to diagnose cases based on the clinical findings eg. Pr*****ed Uterus, Rectovaginal Fistulas, and Colonic Tumors etc. To say the least, it was very informative, and we would like to thank Dr.Shyshkova for making it possible!”
