Can you touch your toes?
It’s way more than just a simple flexibility test—it’s a window into your entire movement system.
Here is why the Toe Touch matters:

1️⃣ Full Posterior Chain Check:
It measures how well your calves, hamstrings, and lower back work together as a connected chain.

2️⃣ Spine & Back Protection:
Achieving a proper toe touch requires authentic hip hinge mechanics. Without it, your lower back often takes the strain during daily movements and heavy lifts.

3️⃣ Nervous System Signal:
Mobility isn’t just about muscle length; it’s about neural permission. A smooth toe touch shows your nervous system feels safe enough to let you go into deep flexion.

If you (or your students) can’t touch your toes, it’s rarely just “tight hamstrings”—it’s usually a balance of strength, stability, and motor control.

Want to learn how to unlock the toe touch in minutes using proven strength-meets-flexibility protocols? Become a Certified Flexible Steel Instructor!

Flexibility isn't an optional extra in training. It's a fundamental part of your athletic performance.

Many people still treat flexibility as something they do occasionally, without a plan or purpose. And for many, stretching simply means "holding a position for 30–60 seconds."

But your ability to move freely through your joints - and to control the entire range of motion - directly affects how much strength you can actually use. Your brain limits access to your strength if it decides you don't have enough control over a movement. In other words, if your nervous system perceives a movement as unsafe, it won't let you express your full strength.

This is where the Flexible Steel system comes in. It provides proven tools for building flexibility without sacrificing strength and for developing strength in end ranges of motion, where most people are at their weakest.

Stiff hips and restricted shoulders aren't just uncomfortable, they're real obstacles to progress. Most strength exercises and athletic skills require good mobility and flexibility in exactly these joints.

There's another important reason to train through a full range of motion: muscle growth. Training from a fully lengthened position to a full contraction has been shown to be highly effective for hypertrophy. Your nervous system also learns through repetition. If you never use a certain range of motion, your brain gradually considers it unnecessary and limits access to it.

Use it or lose it.

That's why Flexible Steel includes not only effective mobility and flexibility exercises, but also clear principles for programming them into a structured training plan, so your flexibility work stops being random or a necessary evil and starts producing measurable results.

What problems can better flexibility and full-range strength help solve?

🔹 Back and shoulder pain caused by compensation. When your hips or shoulders lack mobility, your lower back or neck often compensates, leading to overload and discomfort.

🔹Plateaued strength progress. If you can't perform a proper Goblet Squat or Press, how can you progressively increase the load and achieve your strength goals? As Gray Cook (FMS) famously said: "Don't add fitness to dysfunction."

🔹Poor motor control in end ranges. Flexibility isn't just about reaching farther. It's about having strength, stability, and control where you need them most.

🔹Reduced strength transfer and less muscle growth. Limited range of motion means limited opportunities to build strength and muscle. Efficient force transfer depends on proper body positioning not just mobility for its own sake. The goal isn't simply to do the splits. The goal is to become more competent in movement so you can unlock your strength potential and accelerate your progress.

Flexible Steel is a system that teaches you to combine flexibility and strength so they reinforce each other instead of forcing you to sacrifice one for the other.
