featuring some of the sweetest furry friends around! 🐾
For this project, artists used a gridded photo of their pet (or ideal pet) and transferred it to drawing paper using the grid system and colored pencils ✏️
This is one of my favorite projects to do with students because it’s a time capsule of sorts - a chance for them to capture their childhood pets as they are, and maybe years later, they will be glad to have such a precious keepsake of their beloved furry friend ❤️

Thank you to everyone who celebrated our 4th annual Mayo Art Showcase with us last night! The love and support that filled the gym was outstanding and heartwarming. We were excited to share our class projects, our club projects, and our mural project that’s been two years in the making! (more details on that soon!) 🇺🇸
A special thank-you to our teachers and staff who attended the project unveiling. Our student artists were so excited to share their creations with you as a thank-you for all you do for them and for our school! It’s always a great day to be a Redbird! ❤️
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week and Happy 🍎🎨✨

brought to you by these gorgeous textured landscape paintings! 🖼️ For this project, artists selected a landscape photo and drew it on a canvas, starting with the horizon line. Then they applied a plaster medium on the canvas with palette knives for added texture. Lastly, they painted over the plastered canvas with acrylic paint. Always so proud of how these turn out. They usually take about 3 weeks to complete and it just goes to show that hard work pays off and good things take time 😌 Happy Friday! 🌈 🎨 ✨

Identity Maps: inspired by the map we made of our hometown 🗺️
To create these maps, students started by filling out prompts focusing on their identities (like core values, background/culture, dreams, fears, etc). Next, artists came up with locations (geographical and/or urban-related) to symbolize their identity statements.
Some clever examples include:
“Pet Peeve Pond”, “Bad Grade Bay”, “Waterfall of Dedication”, “Creation Construction”, “Scaredy-Cat Cliffs”, “Velcro Canyon”, “River of Memories”, “Loyalty Lake”, “Inn of Intelligence”, and “Interview Island.” 🏝️
To create the shapes of their islands, artists traced around rice that they sprinkled onto their coffee-stained paper, which formed natural organic shapes. They drew their locations, titled their lands, and topped off their maps with a compass design of their choice. 🧭
It’s safe to say that these artists are exploring more than just art-making techniques in room 212 ✨
