Gabby Young serves as Third Annual Miss Ag-Vocate of Henry County

In its third year for the Henry County Fair, Henry County High School senior Gabby Young is serving as this year’s MISS AG-VOCATE of Henry County.

As part of her responsibilities, Gabby will be responsible for social media posts throughout the year regarding agriculture. She plans to feature special agriculture-related months, such as Dairy Month in June, as well as special seasonal information, such as safety during harvest season. Gabby also hopes to visit local classrooms to read to children about agriculture.

Having lived in California and Idaho through 6th grade, Gabby and her family moved to Henry County during middle school. Before living here, her family owned chickens, and agriculture became of interest to her. Since moving to Henry County, her family owns Duroc meat pigs, and they participated in the Murray Farmers Market last year.

Originally, Gabby thought she would pursue a degree as a veterinarian. She is now leaning towards a career in Agriculture Business or Agriculture Education. Gabby will graduate high school as a completer in both the Veterinary Science and Agriculture Business pathways offered at HCHS.

In speaking about Gabby’s role, Fair Board member Michelle Hopkins shared that Gabby was chosen to serve as this year’s Miss Ag-Vocate based on her strong resume and written essay. Serving in prior years were HCHS students Cori Hopkins and Sarah Moody Poe.

Just a refresher as we go into prime thank you card time!

Remember to write a thank you letter to the buyer of your animal!
One of the most essential elements of your project is showing your appreciation for their support.
Why is it so important? To recognize their contribution to the program, thank them for their support, show that you care and make a lasting connection.
Use our Anatomy of a Good Thank You Letter guide below to help you write that lasting impression.

Maci placed 2nd in the lightweight crossbreed class and 3rd in the middle weight crossbreed class. Congratulations to these two girls and good luck as they get ready for the county fair.

The day may have started with big rain but this team brought the heat!!

Dairy Judging challenges 4 members to place 6 classes of 4 cows or heifers and then give 2 sets of oral reasons to defend their placing. They also completed a DHIA exercise to examine dairy records.

Gabby was the 6th high individual of the entire contest with a score of 443 out of 500. Grey was 17th overall with a score of 431. There were a total 135 individuals at the contest, held at the TN State Fair.

Thank you to the Major family and the exhibitors at the State Fair for putting together a great contest and to the UT Dairy Judging Team for taking reasons. Best of luck to Riverside at the NFFA contest!
