Subject: Important Update: Required Fingerprint Background Screening for All District Volunteers
Dear Families and Community Members,
As we launch into an exciting school year filled with classroom activities, special projects, and field trips, we want to thank you in advance for supporting our mission: every student, every opportunity, every day.
To ensure the highest standard of safety for our students, the District is returning to its pre-pandemic volunteer screening standards. In accordance with Board of Education Policy 4:175, all individuals wishing to volunteer—including classroom helpers, event assistants, and field trip chaperones—must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check prior to serving.
Who Needs To Be Screened? How Often?
Any parent, guardian, or community member who plans to volunteer on campus, assist in classrooms, help with school events, or chaperone field trips. A background check is valid for five years.
Is There a Cost?
No. The background check and fingerprinting process are provided at no cost to you.
How Do I Get Screened?
Screening is available at the District Office and a background check takes approximately one week to clear. We strongly encourage anyone who might want to volunteer or chaperone at any point this school year to complete the screening process as early as possible. Completing this process now ensures you will be cleared for classroom assistance and upcoming fall field trips. We can get you in and out in under 30 minutes.
We want to make it easy for you to volunteer. We will have background checks available at Family Engagement Nights and we will offer extended office hours at the District Office at 300 South Eads Avenue, Building A, on the following dates:
September 15th 4pm-6pm
September 22nd 6am-8am
October 13th 4pm -6pm
January 12th 6am- 8am
April 13th 4pm- 6pm
