A Ukrainian Folktale.
Once upon a time a Sparrow flew down to a bush and said "Little Bush! Let me swing!"
But the bush said "I Won't!".
The Sparrow was angry and flew to the Goat.
"Goat, Goat! Go and nibble the bush, he won't let me swing!"
But the Goat said "I won't!"
So the sparrow flew to the Wolf.
"Wolf, Eat goat! He won't nibble the bush and the bush won't let me swing!"
But the Wolf said "I won't!"
And so it went.
The Sparrow went to the People to kill the wolf,
then to the Tartars to slay the People,
then to the Fire to burn the Tartars,
then to the Water to quench the Fire,
then to the Ox to drink the Water,
then to the Pole Axe to strike the Ox,
then to the Worms to gnaw the Pole Axe,
then to the Hen to peck the worms.
And each in turn they all said "I WON'T!!"
None would harm the others.
Finally, the Sparrow flew to the Sparrow-Hawk for he was known as The Pusher.
"Sparrow-Hawk! Come! Be The Pusher and seize the Hen!"
And Seize he did.
The Sparrow-hawk seized the Hen and the Hen began to peck the Worms, the Worms began to gnaw the Pole Axe, the Pole Axe began to strike the Ox, the Ox began to drink the Water, the Water began to quench the Fire, the Fire began to burn the Tartars, the Tartars began to slay the People, the People began to kill the Wolf, the Wolf began to eat the Goat, the Goat began to nibble the Bush, and the Bush cried out "Swing away, swing away, Swi-i-i-ing!".
