October 12–16 is National School Lunch Week, and this year’s theme is Cafeteria Circus! We’re bringing a little extra fun, excitement, and circus magic to our school cafeterias as we celebrate the important role school meals play in our students’ days.

Our food service teams work hard every day to serve nutritious meals and create a welcoming place for students to refuel, recharge, and connect with friends. And just like a circus, it takes an entire team working behind the scenes to make the show a success!

Many school districts in the State of Michigan typically seek approval for bond proposals every 5-10 years. The last bond proposal approved for Parchment School District was in 2007.

If the bond is approved, the proposed capital improvements would provide a specific pathway for restructuring the district's facilities, including new instructional space and improvements to the buildings that would remain operational. If the bond is not approved, the district would still need to address aging facilities, capital needs, and the cost of maintaining its current footprint.

Why not simply keep all of our current buildings and repair them?
This is one of the central questions behind the current proposal. The district has identified significant needs across its existing facilities. Some buildings require substantial investment simply to continue operating them in their current form. For example, estimated repairs to the current middle school would cost $36.7M and a new building is estimated between $50M-$54.5M. In the 2026 bond proposal, the addition of a 7th and 8th grade wing to the PHS building is estimated at around $14M of the total $41M generated by this potential bond.

The question is not only: "How much will it cost to repair our buildings?" It is also: "How much will it cost to continue operating and maintaining this number of buildings over the next 10, 20, and 30 years?"

The goal is to make facility decisions based not only on today's repair list, but on the long-term use and sustainability of the district's buildings.

Parchment High School's chapter of NHS invites you to the 4th annual PHS Trunk or Treat!

Trunk or Treat will take place on Friday, October 30th from 6-7:30 PM in the parking lot outside the school.

If you or your group/business would like to attend and pass out candy for the kids in costume, we would love to have you!
