This week, our students took a journey through the four cardinal directions—north, south, east, and west—exploring the Degel Machane and learning how Bnei Yisrael camped in the Midbar.
Through our partnership with GrowTorah, we brought these Torah concepts to life right here in our garden As we mapped out each direction, students discovered how sunlight and wind impact what different plants need to grow and thrive.
Putting their learning into action, our students got their hands dirty planting tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans, and beautiful flowers!
A meaningful blend of Torah, nature, and hands-on learning! 💚💙💚💙

On Wednesday, the greater Bergen County Jewish community gathered at the Kaplen JCC to celebrate and learn the poignant stories of the Jews of the Mizrach. In a program that was designed by BPY a few years ago, our 7th graders were divided into groups to research the communities, customs, and history of the Jews of the Mizrach, and to record interviews with representatives from different communities. This year, our students interviewed people from Syria, Morocco, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, and Italy. Their stories reflected struggle and courage, strength and inspiration, warmth and love. This program was, in reality, the climactic point of a year long learning throughout the grades - designed and executed by Rav Gaon, our Rav Beit HaSefer - where students learned about great Mizrachi rabbinic leaders, minhagim, culture and cuisine, and history. The program last night, designed by our very own Robyn Badash, featured a performance by our choir, led by Morah Chana Salamon - featuring Sephardic songs, artifacts from the Mizrachi lands, belonging to our interviewees, and delicious Sephardic food as refreshments. One of our interviewees, Charlie Moche, together with his grandson Leo, a BPY star student, reflected upon their experiences in this program. Many of the attendees commented after the program how moving it was to learn about our interviewees' amazing stories!

Our students have been celebrating their math learning through engaging, hands-on experiences that build understanding and confidence.
Third graders marked the end of their multiplication and division unit with a “Multiplication Math Marathon.” After an ice cream treat inspired by 7x9 = Trouble, students created marathon bibs by solving multiplication equations, then rotated through fast-paced team games that reinforced fluency and application.
Meanwhile, second graders wrapped up their fraction unit with fraction cookies! Students planned and designed cookies divided into equal parts, applying their understanding of halves, thirds, and fourths in a hands-on and delicious way.
From multiplication to fractions, our students are building strong mathematical foundations through creativity, application, and meaningful learning! 💚💙💚💙

Our students have been busy exploring, experimenting, and discovering across the grades!
5th grade scientists wrapped up their unit on electric circuits through hands-on learning, then took it a step further by inventing their own creations using Makey Makey kits—from a turtle selfie to a foot-controlled game and even a basketball hoop challenge! They proudly showcased their inventions this week.
Our 6th graders have been diving into acoustics, learning all about sound waves. To bring their learning to life, Kayla’s father and musician Ami Kozak visited with his instruments, showing how their design impacts sound. Students explored amplitude and frequency, saw a synthesizer in action, and learned how music has evolved with technology. They are now applying their knowledge by creating their own instruments from recycled materials. Thank you, Ami, for such an engaging and memorable experience!
Meanwhile, our 2nd graders investigated dental hygiene through experiments, testing how different liquids affect teeth and whether brushing really helps. They were excited to welcome Dentist Daniella (a BPY staff member and parent!), who helped them connect their discoveries to real-life care.
From circuits to sound to smiles, learning at BPY is filled with curiosity, creativity, and innovation! 💚💙💚💙

Our Elementary School students put their creativity on display as they designed their own beautiful Seder plates in preparation for Pesach. Each plate was unique—different colors, styles, and personal touches—just like the many families that make up our BPY community. 💙
Through this project, students not only learned about the symbols of the Seder, but also expressed their individuality and connection to the holiday.
We love seeing how our students bring their learning to life in such meaningful and creative ways! 💚💙💚💙
