Tonight- amidst thunderstorms, rain, and hail warnings- volunteers from the American Red Cross gave a compelling (and timely!) educational session on Disaster Preparedness and Recovery for Caregivers for the Adult Children of Aging Parents (ACAP).

Caregivers often focus on preparing for a medical emergency but sometimes they forget about the natural ones. This program gave them practical planning tools, safety tips, and recovery resources to help families feel more confident and ready for the unexpected. Caregivers play a critical role, and being prepared for emergencies makes all the difference!

We had our first annual ACAP Bergen County Health Fair. This event drew a large crowd of adult-child caregivers together for an evening dedicated to social support, education, and connecting with resources that provide senior-focused services, emphasize the importance of self-care, and proactive aging strategies for caregivers themselves.

With ER’s over capacity this winter, this program couldn’t have been more timely. Did you know that an AdvanED Urgent Care has imaging machines, ortho, and dehydration infusions? Atlantic Health System has one right in Bergen County that not only saves lives but can alleviate some of the burden from our ER’s. Thank you Dr. Michael Gerardi and Lori Ruschman from Atlantic Health System for providing this wonderful program for the Adult Children of Aging Parents.

Last night’s ACAP presentation at the Paramus Public Library by Denise Schwendeman and Denise Picorale on the Ageless Grace Timeless Fitness for the Body & Brain gave us a peak into healthy longevity of the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Caregivers are often the most stressed part of the population so this presentation gave attendees new strategies for their caregiver toolbox to improve joint mobility, spinal flexibility, stress relief, and raise confidence.
