Going from one activity to another can be challenging for many children, especially when the transition is unexpected or means leaving a favorite activity. As the school year approaches, practicing transitions at home can help children feel more prepared for new routines.

Remember, transitions are a skill that can be practiced and supported. With consistency, visual supports, and positive reinforcement, children can build confidence navigating the many transitions that come with the school day.

If transitions are challenging for your child, our team can help develop strategies that build independence and make everyday routines more manageable. Reach out to learn more!

New routines and transitions can be challenging for children, especially at the beginning of a new school year. A simple First/Then statement can help make expectations clearer, more predictable, and easier to understand.

For example:

➑️ FIRST: Circle Time
➑️ THEN: Snack

First/Then language shows your child what is happening now and what will happen next, helping make transitions feel more predictable.

You can start practicing at home before school begins! Try using First/Then language during everyday routines:

🧸 First: Clean up toys β†’ Then: Read a book
πŸͺ₯ First: Brush teeth β†’ Then: Story time
πŸ‘Ÿ First: Put on shoes β†’ Then: Go outside
🍽️ First: Eat breakfast β†’ Then: Play

For children who benefit from visual supports, you can pair your words with pictures or a simple First/Then board.

A little practice with predictable routines at home can help children feel more confident as they head back to school! πŸ’™

Back-to-school season is all about routines!
As the school year approaches, practicing daily routines at home can help children feel more confident and prepared for the transition back to the classroom.

For some children, these routines don't come easily, and that's okay! ABA therapy can help break everyday tasks into manageable steps while building independence and confidence along the way.

Every ABA session is purposeful, and every goal is personalized. While one child may be learning to take turns during a game, another may be practicing communication, building independence with daily routines, or developing emotional regulation skills. No two therapy plans are exactly alike because no two children are exactly alike.

Our team creates individualized programs based on each child's strengths, needs, and goals to help them build meaningful skills that support success at home, school, and in the community.
