Found this page after getting a postcard with info about the March 14, 2020 Alumni weekend. I'm from the Class of 1960! Only through Grade 10 back then. I'm truly sorry for the suffering experienced as the result of last years fire. You are in my prayers.

My father, Don Perkins, a former staff member was tragically killed in a car accident Sunday. I’m hoping to get as many anecdotes about him as possible to compile into a memory book of some sort for his memorial. Please post here, PM me or send by email to [email protected]. Any photographs would be appreciated also.
Memorial services will be held on May 4 at 4 PM at the Tabernacle in Battle Creek MI. For those unable to attend, the church will be live-streaming the service on their YouTube channel.

Paradise Lost. What a devastating feeling! I would like to acknowledge the grief and pain that are out there among folks who did not currently live in our community. My immediate family who lived in Paradise for years are sad and heart-broken. Friends whom we have known but have moved on to other pastures are devastated. But there is one group of people my heart especially goes out to today. That group are the alumni of Paradise Adventist Academy. My husband, Loren Sutherland, taught there for 30 years, and one of the reasons we have stayed here in our retirement is the fact that he has frequents opportunity to interact with 'his' alumni! Some of them he sees weekly at church, others come home for the holidays to visit their family. In recent years he's had multiple contacts with former students as he provides technical support at the funerals of their grandparents. These folks are sharing their wonderful memories and their grief on Facebook. They are grieving the loss of the places that made their growing-up years meaningful. Their homes in the trees, the school where they made life-long friends and learned about God, as well as the 3 Rs. They are mourning the loss of the church where they were baptized, that was a venue for their graduation, where they were married. As I read these posts on Facebook, I am reminded that our community is much bigger than those of us who still live here in Butte County. The years have woven a beautiful tapestry of connections. I pray we will find ways to preserve that tapestry as many find it necessary to move forward away from the place we have called home. Posted by Laura Holt Sutherland
