GV's Parker wins 3A WSL Player of the Year
Capping off a terrific year in which he helped lead the Grand Valley Cardinals to the 3A Great Eight in Denver, senior guard John Parker was named the 3A Western Slope League Player of the Year on Sunday.
Parker, whose father, Scott, was at the helm of the Cardinals’ 21-5 season, averaged a team-high 22.5 points per game, to go along with eight rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, oftentimes hitting the big bucket or ripping down a key rebound for Grand Valley throughout the season.
For his career, Parker finished with 1,243 points as a member of the Cardinals, surpassing the career total of his brother, Sam, who finished with 1,150 points during his time at Grand Valley.
The 3A WSL Coach of the Year is Paul Harvey, who led the Coal Ridge Titans to a 16-8 record, including a share of the 3A WSL regular season title.
Joining Parker on the First Team 3A WSL All-Conference team from Grand Valley is junior guard Gunner Rigsby and senior forward Tanner Magee.
Rigsby averaged 19 points per game, 3.8 assists per game and three rebounds a game, providing a serious counter to Parker in the backcourt.
In the paint, Magee closed out a great career with the Cardinals, averaging 12 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game and 2.1 blocks per game.
