Each week we will explore a celebration from around the world to dance to it's music, heand celebrate together. CircleRound Family Dance is a dance class for families with young children ages infant to apx 7yrs old. Studies have shown that parents who dance with their children are modeling growth behavior and that dance is good for the proprioceptive input a child’s developing brain receives throu

gh the movement, repetition, dance, and community. Stories from around the world are shared, cultural folklore and both ancient and modern traditions are spoken of, and music and movement styles from other cultures are shared, as well as natural family practices and tribal practices from other places. Tanya Blacklight has been on a natural parenting journey for 20years and has learned much to share along the way about natural and attachment parenting, and tribal upbringing. When enrolling in this class your family will receive so much more than just dance lessons, you will receive tribe and communal unity to raise your child with.

Hey fraaaaaans!

This last class we celebrated Cerealia and Pomona Day!

Here's a lil HERstory..

Right now, we're in the middle of Cerealia, the 8 day festival of Ceres, goddess of grain, peace, good government, abundance. customary day to begin weeding the growing crops at this time.
Altar symbols: grains, sunshine, wear yellow!

It's also the celebration of the Goddess Pomona,
of orchards and flowers💐

Symbols: all flowers, gardens, gardening implements,
first fruits.

Themes: Rest, Pleasure, Nature
Pomona and her consort Vertumnus, presided over gardens together, they embodied the fruitful earth, from which we gather physical and spiritual sustenance. First fruits are offered to them in gratitude.

Altar symbols: flowers, first fruits, green scarf, flowered fabrics, garden tools, bowl of water, greenery

To do: wear a floral or leafy print outfit today to class. Wear flowers in your hair. Visit a flower farm/greenhouse or hike through a field full of flowers today. Take time to literally smell the flowers and give thanks for the simple pleasure and healing this provides.

Kids are allowed to rest, dress-up, dance and be themselves at Circle Around Dance!

Last Saturday we celebrated the Return of Spring and shared the story of the goddess Rinda who represents wintertime and how the trickster Odin was trying to wake her up to bring on Spring!

We danced as seeds and wind and sprouts growing tall in celebration of the earth waking up all around!

Come join in the fun this Sat at 11am at Blue Sage Center for the Arts with kiddos ages infant on up to 7yrs and caregiver(s).

Tomorrow at Circle Around Family Dance's Event

We celebrate the Return of the Sunshine and the goddess Rinda, who was the Scandinavian consort of Odin who teaches us to accept change gracefully.

Let's all wear yellow and celebrate the Sunshine we are blessed with this month!

Ses you at 11am! We start right on time, yet doors open at 10:45 if you'd like to come early and get settled in with your little ones.

Please wear comfy, stretchy yellow layers you can move in and shed and bring a water bottle and something to place on the Springtime altar if you desire🌻🏵🌼

When a family with an infant wonders

”what will my baby benefit from a dance class when they will simply be in my arms or in a sling or baby pack the whole time?..sounds exhausting, I am too tired for this…”

I tell them It is a free form class, there is no pressure!

We spacehold and open the circle with song and story, then we dance and may hold simple activity, and close with a song and sometimes props like parachutes, scarves, feathers, balls, etc.

Parents are welcome to sit, lay, crawl, dance, and/ or observe with their littles, it is much like five rhythms or ecstatic yet with themes children can learn from. A babe in arms or carrier and learning by observation and proxy with caregivers in the circle style of learning for wee ones. The attachment bond is strengthened through touch and proprioceptive abilities improved by movement.

Elders are invited to join in and hold babies for parents, as all of us benefit from the intergenerational contact!

I did this with my girls when they were young and they still speak to it.
