The countdown to the KU Powwow & Indigenous Cultures Festival is on. We are 10 days away and keeping an eye on the rain predictions in case of alternate plans that need to be pivoted to.

In regards to our vendors, we have had an overwhelming response and are ALL OUT of vendor booths. Especially if we decide on an alternate plan because of rain.

All vendors should have received their confirmations, if you have not received a confirmation email, check your junk folder for an email from [email protected]. Please reach out if you have any other questions.

A Gritty Partnership of Man and Horse!

The Pony Express gained legendary status in the lore of the American West, symbolizing human ingenuity and the overcoming of formidable challenges to connect a vast nation.

The looming threat of the Civil War made a reliable communication line between Washington, D.C., and the gold-rich state of California essential. Many feared California might join the Confederacy. By providing rapid transport for news, government intelligence, and military orders, the Pony Express helped secure California's loyalty to the Union.

The Pony Express's story of innovation and perseverance in the face of immense obstacles solidified its place as a storied chapter in American history.

📅 October 7, 1780 | On this day, patriots claimed a decisive victory at the Battle of Kings Mountain in South Carolina.

Over 900 frontier fighters - “Overmountain men” from the Appalachians and backcountry- surrounded and overwhelmed Major Patrick Ferguson’s Loyalist militia. The clash ended in a resounding American victory, shattering British plans to rally Loyalist support in the South.

Thomas Jefferson called it “The turn of the tide of success.”

General George Washington later told his army: “The crude, spirited, hardy determined volunteers who crossed the mountains served as proof of the spirit and resources of the country.”

This triumph set in motion the chain of events that ended at Yorktown, Virginia, with Cornwallis’s surrender just one year later. 🇺🇸
