Congratulations Ruby!! She was crowned Miss Alabama tonight! Next up, Miss America!

Update on our Ruby: she is going into tonight’s final with wins in TWO preliminary rounds. Ruby won her preliminary in evening gown as well as talent! She has also been chosen as a finalist for both the STEM Award and Community Service Award! We are so proud of her and cannot wait to see her shine in tonight’s final competition.

Next up on our Angler Alumni Spotlight is Ruby Tilghman! Ruby is the reigning Miss Birmingham and will be competing this week for the title of Miss Alabama! She recently graduated from the University of Alabama and has been accepted into and will be attending their prestigious medical school as well. We are so proud of Ruby and how she continues to make her mark on the world, leaving everything and every one better than she found them. We cannot wait to see what this weekend holds, but she will always be the queen of our hearts! Once an Angler, always an Angler! 💙💚🎣

Now that summer is here, we want to take some time to recognize a few of our Angler Alumni who are continuing to Cast for Excellence!
Today’s spotlight is Zoe Walker who was chosen as the class of 2026 recipient for our Angler Alumni Scholarship. She wrote eloquently about how she continues to use the Habits in her life. She also shared words of wisdom with our 5th graders during their end of year awards ceremony and gave them guidance on navigating the years of middle and high school ahead.

Zoe is now on her way to Gulf Coast State College to pursue a degree in nursing. We are so excited to see what is ahead for her! Congratulations Zoe! Once an Angler, always an Angler! 💙💚🎣

Our annual staff vs. 5th grade kickball game is a Deer Point tradition for closing out the school year. This year, the staff had a come from behind victory!

At Deer Point and across our district, it’s all about setting high expectations and working hard to achieve academic goals! This year, Mr. Van Dixon’s fifth grade class made a deal with him about their class goals: if the class averaged 80% or higher for all THREE FAST tests, Mr. V. would wear a tutu, a tiara, and dye his beard pink. 🎀👑😂

Well… the students DID IT! Their hard work, determination, and perseverance paid off, and today Mr. Van Dixon proudly celebrated their success with a little public humiliation. As Mr. V. said, “It was well worth it if the kids were motivated and reached their goals!” Please help us celebrate these amazing students and the hard work they put in all year long. We are so proud of them! 🎉📚

We are thrilled to announce that our first baby Killdeer bird has hatched! We are anxiously awaiting the other three to make their debut.

Today was National Speech Language Pathologist Day and we could not let the day go by without saying a HUGE thank you to our Speech Club! These amazing educators go above and beyond every day for our Anglers and we could never put into words how much they are appreciated and loved by everyone who has the pleasure to work with them. Thanks for all that you do Mrs. DeVito, Mrs. Tilghman, and Mrs Stettler! 💙💚🎣
(As you can tell by their “Family Photo” they are always ready to share a laugh and bring on the fun and we wouldn’t have it any other way!”

Our 4th grade Anglers decided to go Greek for the day with a Toga Party and Olympic Games! They had javelin throws, foot races and even chariot races! Our friends at Taziki’s even helped to coordinate with parents and teachers to provide some authentic Greek food for the event.
