Denise Newsome, a chemistry and physics teacher at Deane Bozeman and adjunct professor for Florida State University Panama City, helps kick off our virtual Nuclear Science STEM camp by handing out supplemental STEM camp boxes. High school students are currently learning how to use radiation monitors (Geiger counters) to gain an initial understanding of nuclear energy, the processes that create it, and the uses for it. https://pc.fsu.edu/stem/nuclear-science-camp

In honor of her contributions to Bay District Schools and the community, the Bay District school board meeting room was recently named after retiring board member Ginger Littleton. Littleton, '92, is an alum of Florida State University Panama City and also serves as the director for the STEM Institute at Florida State University Panama City. Her work through the STEM Institute as impacted more than 300 teachers and 2,000 students in Northwest Florida. Congratulations Ginger! 🎉

Today, School Board members approved Superintendent Husfelt’s recommendation to name the board room in honor of retiring board member Ginger Littleton. The Superintendent noted that “there’s no doubt in my mind that you saved lives that day in December ten years ago” when Mrs. Littleton intervened when the board was threatened by a gunman. Mrs. Littleton will be remembered for her passionate commitment to the children of our district and her advocacy for all.
