It is an exciting, but also sad time of transition for our union chapter. We are so grateful for outgoing faculty president, Michelle August, and all of the work she has done has a great leader on campus. We are also excited for incoming president Kevin Navratil.
It is equally sad to wish Gary Piercy farewell as he ends his 23-year tenure as Moraine Valley faculty Association treasurer. He has served under five different association presidents over this time. And has been the backbone of our operation.
Thank you to Gary and Michelle
Also, thank you to our other outgoing executive committee members and welcome to our new members and officers!

It was fun today to spend time with fellow faculty members and visiting administrators for the annual faculty picnic. It was almost warm for a little bit, but our traditional freezing weather showed up by the afternoon with a little rain!!
It has been another great academic year and we are excited for graduation next week.

Show your support!
One of our pieces of legislation is in committee on 4/16. We need to show our support by filing a witness slip.
HB 5134, which would change the composition of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees to require community college representation, needs your support. The Illinois Federation of Teachers has fought to change this law so that a community college representative is guaranteed a seat as a trustee on the SURS Board. This legislation is critical to ensuring that Local 1600 can maintain a voice on this board—a board that makes decisions directly affecting our members' pensions and retirement security.

Take action!
Our colleges, students, and communities are under attack. Silence isn’t an option.
The Trump administration has frozen over $1 billion in federal funding for Illinois, hurting child care, social services, and education. Community colleges are already stretched thin, and funding cuts and freezes create more barriers for our students.
That’s why CCCTU members are joining IFT’s Full Funding Fridays and calling on Gov. Pritzker to fully fund higher education, paid for by progressive revenue that makes the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.
Write to Pritzker today to demand full funding: https://zurl.co/hySrL
🗓️ Take action monthly leading up to May Day
