I remember as a teacher and principal how wonderful it was thinking and reflecting on aspects of my classroom I wanted to change the next school year. Made me excited about the upcoming year. Summers still have that effect on me today. Hope your summers give you great joy.

Just got back from Honolulu and giving my presentation. Both went well enough. By the time I did my talk, most people had either left or were spending their last minutes in HI on the beach. Still had time to talk about the importance of play and pretending though. Still very rewarding and great fun.

Hi everyone,
Just a little update.

I’ve been working with an emotional intelligence organization called EQ4PEACE. Great group. Great people. We’re trying to link EQ with peace initiatives.

I’m going to be speaking in HI at the international educators conference in January. I’m going to be talking about my book that I hope will be published by then. It’s called Going Beyond Project Based Learning. Im also hoping to speaking at another session about the 3 components of a comprehensive SEL program.
I’m looking forward to it.

Hi everyone,
As you know I was asked to speak at the Progressive Educators Network conference in MN recently. It was a very interesting gathering. There were a lot of speakers, keynote and breakout sessions, that spoke to discreet inequity in our schools. It seems that there are many examples of prejudice to students, especially African American and Hispanic, that go unnoticed. I don’t think they’re intentionally ignored but are hard to see since racism is really entrenched in our society. Speakers who share their experiences and insights are a first step towards making a better, more equitable, education system. More to come later.
