Our middle school students are loving their media elective this year. Two classes a week with the amazing people at KMTV - Silicon Valley Community Media

We were delighted to welcome back Linda Janklow from Peopleology. She worked with our LA classes talking about symbols used in art and cultures around the world, focusing on Native American artifacts, and ancient civilizations such as Egypt, China, West Africa, Mexico and India. Students made artwork with their own symbols inspired by Indian Ranguli designs, which are traditionally created using rice flour and created by hand in front of homes as a sign of welcome to visitors and good luck. Ours use chalk pastels and paper, and we will combine ours together as a symbol of our creative, welcoming community made up of unique individuals.

Learning through art! Our littlest math students have been learning about parabolic curves using string art. Building their boards with hammer and nails was a fun way to start the unit. No thumbs were harmed!!

Good things to think about. So many kiddos have sensory challenges.

Our students are celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Month by creating paper plate self portraits using air clay to show what they are most proud of. Their portraits burst with charisma, color, and personality, each one a reflection of the unique way they see the world. Their proud statements remind us that dyslexia is not a limitation but a gift of imagination, creativity, and the ability to see the world through a different lens.

Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice’s full quote on dyslexia: “It is an opportunity and a possibility to learn differently. You have magical brains, they just process differently. Don’t feel like you should be held back by it.”
The Princess struggled until Harry Potter changed her relationship with reading. The right book at the right time made all the difference.
