Silicon Valley Karate Learn traditional Japanese karate in a safe and supportive environment. Separate classes for kids, teens and adults (and some mixed).

A student of karate since 1982 and an instructor of Shotokan since 1984, Sensei Jon Keeling has been passing his passion along to Palo Alto and the surrounding area for over 20 years. At Silicon Valley Karate, we offer both group and private instruction in authentic, traditional Shotokan Karate, as well as workshops in modern self-defense. Teaching students to develop speed and power, as well as s

harpen their minds and perfect their characters, we are giving our community tools to help them keep safe and a framework for how to live. Whatever your age or skill level, we welcome you to discover your personal power with us.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us in celebrating another remarkable year of Karate. From our rigorous training session on the beach to the gathering at my home afterward, it is a privilege to share these experiences with such an exceptional martial arts community.
This week marks my 44th year of dedicated practice in Karate. While the physical demands of more than four decades on the mat are undeniably felt, the profound impact on my heart and spirit provides endless inspiration to continue this journey for another 44 years.
Thank you for your continued dedication, support, and fellowship. I look forward to seeing you all at the dojo.

🥋 WEEKEND EXTRA HIGHLIGHTS! 🥋
In addition to our normal class programming, we have an incredible lineup of added schedule highlights happening this Labor Day weekend! Come join us to elevate your training, learn vital life skills, or enjoy some sun and community on the beach. 🏖️✨
Here is the event schedule running alongside our regular classes:
🗓️ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Instructors’ Class 🖤
Who: Black Belts & Instructors
Focus: “Priorities” — refining class-by-class and student-specific focal points. Let Sensei Keeling know if you want to lead a portion! (Hybrid: In-person & Virtual options).
1:30 PM – 2:30 PM | Tweens & Teens Self-Defense (Ages 11-17) 👥
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM | Adults Self-Defense (Ages 18+) 🛑
Note: Our self-defense workshops are NOT karate classes. They are open to EVERYONE (non-members welcome, no experience necessary). Just $35 to learn vital life skills!
🗓️ SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
9:30 AM | Santa Cruz Beach Training & Pot-luck 🏖️
Where: Twin Lakes State Beach (East side, near the Crow’s Nest)
Details: Arrive by 9:00 AM to beat the holiday traffic and park! Karate-gi encouraged (wear a swimsuit underneath).
Afterparty: Head to Sensei Keeling’s place in Soquel afterward for a post-training pot-luck lunch! Bring a dish to share. 🍲
