Dear Camp MAC family and friends,

The health and safety of our campers, counselors, and advisers is our top priority. Because of this, the Camp MAC Leadership team has decided to transition Camp MAC a completely online experience for Summer 2020.

The price of the program will be reduced to $450 to account for the absence of food and daycare benefits. However, rest assured, the camp will still be as educational and as engaging as years prior. All of Camp MAC’s profits will support and further fund the projects and initiatives of the Media Arts Center at Palo Alto High School.

Virtual Camp MAC will still teach all of the intended curricula at the same caliber and will include modified activities we traditionally have during camp such as short lectures, accompanying activities, structured writing time, and, of course, fun, socially-oriented activities so campers can get to know their peers!

While the current situation has limited our options in some capacities, it has also presented us with exciting new opportunities! For the first time ever, Camp MAC will be focused on multimedia journalism. Paly’s journalism program is fortunate to offer students a variety of platforms from which they can tell their stories, ranging from newspapers to magazines, websites, vlogs, TV, social media, and radio.

Our digital camp will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an hour lunch break in between, along with optional daily workshops and presentations that will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., hosted by guests with experience in various journalism and multimedia fields. There will be no loss in instructional hours from the original in-person camp, but the overall time frame will be extended to provide more opportunities for campers to participate in. We recognize that spending many consecutive hours on Zoom is tiring and would like to help minimize fatigue as much as possible.

We thank you for your patience and we hope to see you in August! Please don’t hesitate to email us with any questions or concerns.

Best,
Camp MAC Leadership Team
