At almost 8%, inflation has become the #1 topic these days. Everyone is feeling it.

It’s affecting everybody’s budget and more than ever, it is so key, SO KEY🔑 to be intentional with your money because every dollar is going to go a long way. Every dollar has a job. Statistically, Americans are seeing an increase of anywhere between $3-$600 in their monthly expenses.

How to leverage yourself with this rising inflation?

1️⃣ Focus on you. Focus on what you can control, don’t dwell on what you can’t. Ask yourself, when the paycheck hits the account, do you have a plan/budget for it? Where is it going? Please y’all.. if you aren’t already doing so, do yourself a HUGE favor and GET ON A BUDGET for your money.

2️⃣ Look at where you can cut back. Are you able to ditch cable or subscriptions/memberships that you aren’t even using? Can you cut down on spending by where you shop for groceries or not going out to eat as much? Be VERY intentional with where you’re spending.

3️⃣ Give every dollar a job. Every dollar matters in spreading out your income over your monthly expenses.

4️⃣ Relook at how you could be bringing home more of your income. Are there cheaper insurance policy options? Should you temporarily cut down on retirement investing in order to boost your financial stability now? Can you adjust your tax withholding if you received a big refund? We want to see YOUR money being accessible in YOUR hands, not the government’s.

5️⃣ Are you able to bring in extra cash by selling items you don’t have use for anymore? Are there clothes you don’t wear or furniture you don’t use? This cash could be used towards your monthly expenses if you’re feeling tight.

More than ever, it’s so critical to get intentional with your income and spending, become debt free, and have a healthy emergency fund!

A question I get a lot when I say we have 3 dogs.. “How do you afford 3 dogs?!”

It took some practice, but we finally have a system that’s working!

1️⃣ They have their own line item in our monthly budget. $50-$60 has been our range for monthly food and treats or a new toy.

2️⃣ A “Pups” sinking fund👏🏼 I’ve mentioned before sinking funds will become your bestfriend, I wasn’t kidding! Check out my page on what are sinking funds and why they work.

Creating a sinking fund for your pets will allow you to cover any other related expenses without touching your monthly budget that you’ve already planned out. It’ll give you that flexibility in saving up for vet visits, meds, grooming care, etc. We currently put aside $125 a month to their sinking fund.

3️⃣ Have an emergency fund🙌🏼 When starting out, any pet emergency can come from your household emergency fund. When it’s feasible for you, I’d suggest building an emergency fund that’s solely for your pets. One for the household and one for your pets, that way you’re extra covered in case something happens to your fur babies. I will say this has saved us a few times when emergencies have come up!

An emergency fund for our fur babies became an essential priority for us after we had one of them get a severe allergic reaction to a bug sting of some sort. It landed her an overnight stay at the emergency vet hospital to get her vitals back to normal. We had a household emergency fund that we pulled from for this case, but quickly realized this emergency fund 1) took the financial scaries away from helping our baby, we just wanted her healthy again and were able to focus on that, and 2) that the pups would be getting their own emergency fund, so that it doesn’t take away from our household one if one of us lost our jobs.

Fur babies are FAMILY and we have to be prepared for their well-being😘🐶 PLAN AHEAD.
