No complex neuroscience, no clinical protocols, and no sensory strategies today—just pure heart.

When one of my sweet kiddos typed out “shelley is the best forever” on the AAC device completely unprompted, my eyes filled up right then and there.

Beyond every target goal, motor plan, and reflex exercise, what we are really fighting for every single day is connection.

Giving a child the tools to share their genuine voice, their affection, and their humor on their own terms is the absolute greatest privilege in the world.

Days like this stay with you forever. This is why I do what I do. ❤️

Every milestone starts long before the physical movement happens—it starts with confidence.

When a child is working hard in quadruped to reach for their AAC device, they aren’t just building core stability and motor planning. They are learning that their effort matters, their voice is valuable, and their body is capable of amazing things.

Progress doesn’t always look like a giant leap overnight. Sometimes it’s the extra inch of reach, the extra second of balance, or the tiny spark in their eyes when they realize, “I did that.”

To every parent watching their child work hard through the small wins: keep believing, keep encouraging, and never doubt the immense potential inside your child. ❤️

⚠️ Unpopular Opinion: Skipping early motor milestones, like crawling does matter down the road!

When a child army crawls using only their upper body, dragging their legs behind, it tells us that certain primitive reflexes are still active and bilateral integration hasn’t fully locked in. This can show up later as issues with reading, core stability, and visual-motor integration.

By targeting the nervous system foundations first, we get the body moving in complete sync!

Ever watch a child have a meltdown and realize their body is literally trapped in panic? 🧠⚡

When a child spends their day in continuous sensory overload, their nervous system gets locked in fight-or-flight. At that point, reasoning, talking, or asking them to self-regulate won’t work—their brain simply doesn’t feel safe.

As the new school starts, watch for these hidden signs:
🌀 Sensory overload from new sounds, smells, and routines
😮‍💨 Trouble regulating big emotions when plans change
🧠 Anxiety about the unknown (new teacher, new room, new faces)
🦶 Body feels “unsafe” in unfamiliar spaces
💤 Sleep or appetite changes in the days leading up

Overwhelm is communication, not defiance.
