Palmetto Tigers finished 2nd out of 12 teams at the Southeast Duals!

This weekend we saw the debut of Fransico Leyva and Leonel Barboza. Both greatly strengthen our team as a whole.

We crushed Braden River 60-10. Bayshore 77-6, Lemon Bay 49-28, and Southeast 52-21

We lost in the finals match to a tough Dunedin team 49-28. Could have been a much closer dual meet if we had seniors Thad Johnson and Derek Schmidt healthy and in the lineup.

Special Mention to our super freshman: Kevin Schneider (Broke the freshman win record today), Brendan Valley, Caden Bryan, and Jesse Mercer. If these four put in the extra work in the offseason they will be unbeatable in the next few years.

Super Sophmores and Bash Brothers: Houston and Duncan will unstoppable line backers and wrestlers if they continue to put forth the effort.

Leximus and Flying Brian Ormsby had a great day at 220 and will be battling it out for starting rights at 220. Both kids are tough as nails and will be interesting to see who prevails!

County Championships on Thursday! Come out and support your Tigers as we battle for county bragging rights. Manatee and Lakewood Ranch both bring tough teams to the table and we will need a large crowd help keep the momentum!

The young Tigers fought hard to place 3rd out of 13 teams! The scary part of this team is they are all young. If this crew bands together and wrestles all spring and summer, they will be something special!

106- Travis Murray 4-1 on the day. Great day for a guy who is finally big enough to show his skills at 106.

145- Derrick Schmidt 4-1. He would have been 5-0 but i bumped him to get a better match.

HWT- Nathan Heidenreich 4-1. The big mans only loss was to the 3rd ranked kid in the state 5-1.

Our first tournament of the year of very frustrating. Coach wilkes and I violated one of our rules we set 5 years ago. Never wrestle in polk county!!!!

Because we wrestled in polk
county, we drew the best team first and came out flat. Our best wrestlers were not prepared to battle at 9am. Gateway beat us 46-30.

We went on to crush our next four opponents but somehow ended up in the 5th-6th place match instead of going for 2nd or 3rd. Polk county math does not add up! So we ended in 5th place and 4-1.

Tonight was JV Mat Time at Manatee High School. We had the most JV wrestlers out of any school there. Overall we wrestled very well. Randy Kelly, Keitrel Davis, Eduardo Bazan, Bradley Henry, Joe Ammons, Thaddeus Johnson, Lex Leclezio, and Destin Bransford were all undefeated at 3-0. Great work so far!

Tommorow its back to work to prepare for the Varsity Dual Tournament on Saturday at McKeel Academy.

Today was the start of 10 years for Palmetto Wrestling. We went 30-23 in individual matches. Chase washington, ben mercer, nathan heidenreich, joe ammons, destin bransford, leonel barboza all went 2-0. There were many new guys getting there first matches today. This may be the scrappiest group of kids since the 2004 inaugural season.

10 years marks the fact that jeff mcloskey, holden alfonso, seth stinson, dominique walker, anthony hubbard, shannon robinson, and many others are getting old!

Next Wednesday we are at Manatee High for a JV tournament. saturday the varsity debuts at Mckeel in Lakeland!
