🥳Bat Fest 2026 is exactly 36 days away from now! We are making a final victory lap from our summer t-shirt campaign to celebrate the victorious, voracious, vibrant, vivid, and vivacious bats of Bear Creek Nature Center--uh, Oatmeal, did you come up with some of those adjectives? 🦇

He’s no Jimothy, but our buddy Nubz has his own stubby bum and a silly gait—we’re used to different. Like most of our formerly wild animal ambassadors, he came to us with his own special look and we work hard to give him the enrichment and accommodations he needs.

Here’s some summer glamour shots getting some exercise around his walking paths. Nubz enters his era as a geriatric opossum, as most have a lifespan in the wild of only around 2 years and, in captivity, a few opossums have aged to 5. We cherish every moment with our sweet silver haired fox—er, ‘possum. 😎

Make time to visit Pawpaw Nubz this summer! We are open Tues-Sat 11am-4pm.

One of our local volunteers got a little local spotlight. Spoilers: we love her! If you have been to one of our festivals, you have probably met her holding a snake 🐍 or two, and wearing a batty shirt and accessories 🦇

Today’s Human of Coweta: Tiffany!

“Tiffany is an awesome human bean 🫘! Most of you might know her from Leaf & Bean or Bear Creek Nature Center. While she can make a mean latte, she can also teach you so much about reptiles.

Since the first grade when a teacher had a class pet that was a snake, Tiffany fell in love. She has gone on to get certificates in this field and is also on the board of directors at Bear Creek Nature Center. If you have ever seen her at the nature center you can see how passionate she is about animals. I've never seen Tiffany more in her element than when she has a snake in her arms. Her hero has always been Steve Irwin and anyone who knows her will agree it shows 😄.

On top of her love for reptiles is her love for all animals, at home we have 8 dogs, 4 cats, 7 lizards, 9 snakes, and a husband (Me!) She's the best fur/scale baby momma there is!

She is one of the amazing people I know. Always putting others before herself and expects nothing in return. The best daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter. All in all she is pretty much the coolest person i know and my life partner.”

IT BEGINS! Construction on our donor pathway will begin soon! There is still an opportunity for you to contribute a brick to the project.

🦉The commemorative bricks will be installed on the Bear Creek Nature Center campus near the bird compound. This will improve accessibility, and visitors will be able to see your contributions for years to come. 🦉

We hope that you will help our fundraiser by purchasing a $50 brick commemorating your support of our little nature center, or in honor of a friend or loved one. You can even pitch in as a family, team, classroom, or club and buy a brick on your collective behalf!

Thank you so much for all your support in helping to make our little nonprofit flourish and your encouragement to both the humans and animals that help to make it all go.

🍂Claim your brick now!🍂

Visit the following link to place an order and specify your brick text: https://www.bricksrus.com/donorsite/bearcreeknaturecenter

“My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!”

Let’s go there and back again—to the nature center, that is. There are always fierce looking (attempts) critters and magical beasts to discover.

You don’t have to imagine the wonder and fun that lives in our little slice of woods—it enchants adventurers of all ages!

We had a fun party to top off our summer t shirt fundraiser. It ended with a big rain that fell! It was quite the core memory as our littlest volunteers enjoyed getting a little wet coming in from the rain and the older volunteers enjoyed watching the pond ripple.

Goodnight and…
