Please remember you are going to live to be over 100!!! There will be many careers in your future. Deciding where to start is hard but also exciting. I love stories of former Alaskans who found unique careers.
~ One of my favorite stories is the young man from Wasilla, who wanted to work in theatre and accidentally got trained to create and maintain wigs for major productions including on Broadway. He has traveled the world with plays like the Lion King.
~ Another great story is the young woman, Paige Adams-Geller, who went from modeling to designing jeans working with major retailers around the country. The jeans quickly attracted a devoted celebrity following, including actress Eva Longoria, fashion model Amber Valletta, and singer Mandy Moore.
We are entering the most expensive time of year because of gift giving. Your gifts do not have to be expensive. Sharing a beloved book, movie or picture is very personal. Think fun rather then expensive. A movie night with popcorn and candy, game night with silly prizes, or a hike with hot chocolate and cookies can be great memory makers. Set a budget and keep with it. Happy creative shopping!
A big part of money management is planning for the future. Next Friday is Black Friday, named that because most businesses are finally out of the red and making a profit. If you are thinking about buying presents, or getting a new computer, electronics or other items this is a great time to buy. However, there are good articles letting you know that you might want to wait on certain things. This is a fun time to read about ways to get a good deal.
As I continue my series about Money Management today would be a good time to talk with your teen about the extra expenses that come with winter. One important aspect is making sure the car is ready for the colder weather. Think about what it costs to change tires, make sure you have the right oil and antifreeze in your car. This is a great conversation to have that includes costs and planning. Let me know what other advice your give!!
Sorry I missed this past week posting but I was traveling. Did you know that when you travel you should let your bank or credit union know? This is a fraud protection policy and it avoids problems when you pay for things. I find comfort in knowing they are watching out for me. Have a good weekend.
