Today is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Awareness Day.
A few years ago, the Anchorage Opera House presented the Indigenous Opera, Missing. I love how art can create space for education, conversation, awareness, lament, change, more voices, more empathy, more connection between us all.

Some details of the content:
Anchorage Opera's Production of Missing was created by "First Nations playwright Marie Clements and Juno award-winning composer Brian Current.... The production is Indigenous cast and led."

The collage below is from Anchorage Opera's website:

Can I just say one of my favorite things that came out of the flooding of my studio space is getting to just play my warm toned piano in the lobby of The Glenn Massay Theater every week?? I am so honored that I get to play pre-show music for some performances of Valley Performing Arts’ production of Annie over the next few weeks.

I am very proud of this set list and hopefully the QR code Is easy to use via a social media post for the enjoyment of this musical era on some curated Spotify playlists. 🎶

If you are able to see Annie - I hope this music helps immerse you into the early 1930s. 🎶 🥂

PS: Be sure to brush up on your history of The Great Depression, The New Deal, and Al Capone. Reminds me of all the research I had to do in high school when I performed in a production of You Can’t Take it With You. So many pop culture references specific to the 1930s.

One of my former students is teaching music lessons with the studio! 🥳 He is the one standing in the back jamming out to Work Song while he plays a makeshift organ/bass combo on the keys. 🙃 Nathan is a wonderful musician who is passionate about music and loves to collaborate with others. You have likely heard him playing his own arrangements at my recitals and at local restaurants & hospitals. You may have also enjoyed watching him perform with the CHS jazz band & his family and friends. He has a few slots available during the daytime and after school on Thursdays. If you are interested in working with him in November & December — please reach out to learn more via messenger or call/text me (Haley) at 907-232-2806. 🎶

And another recital for the books! These students are solid performers. One of my favorite things as a teacher is seeing my students genuinely have fun performing for each other. 🎶
