Some of our lucky 2 Shoes horses are visiting the fair today! You’ll find us in stalls 49-42 and 38-35. This evening we will have our 8th race of the season and you can see these amazing lesson horses in action!

We are 7 Races in to our Lucky 2 Shoes Summer Barrel Series with only 3 races to go! One of those races is tonight at the Alaska State Fair. Please remember folks will need admission tickets and parking pass to enter the equestrian center parking lot. Registration will open at the usual 5:30 as well as practice arenas. Races will start at 6:30 with the anthem.

If you were our horsemanship or sportsmanship winners from last race come grab the flags from the announcers booth to practice before 6:30.

🎠 We are thrilled to see everyone tonight, we know there’s always lots of extra excitement on fair races days, so a couple quick reminders:

🚶🚶‍♀️🐎please remember that all horses need to stay on the back side of the arenas away from the barns when traveling to and from the parking area for pedestrians safety.

🚗 No vehicles can enter the barn area.

🐴 If you need a stall today or next week please talk to Sierra, she has stalls available for rent!

Here is all the previous race times it’s hard to believe we only have a few more left to go. Info on award ceremony/ series buckles will come after the series is finished.

Okay it’s way over due but here is my Dakota appreciation post because oh man is this a cool mare!

Dakota is definitely a little more comfortable as an English pony vs. western but that doesn’t stop her from doing all the things. Yes she has a little mare spice but let’s talk about that for a minute… did you know Dakota is only 9 years old and on top of that she’s had 2 beautiful healthy babies! She came to our program with a solid start and a week old Lucy at her side. She mostly just took care of Lucy that first year with us, doing some lessons and heading up to the cross country course for the first time doing the baby jumps but keeping it pretty low key. The next year when she was 6yo we got to continue her eduction and learn all of her quirks, mostly that she believes she’s a princess and hard work isn’t her jam. Her 7yo year she was bred to Indy and she got to do all the things including head up to the Red Mountain cross country course again. Big fields, big jumps and definitely some excitement. Her 8th year she had the beautiful Ms. Willow and took the year off. This year she is back to work! She’s healthy and happy and definitely gets an excited buck in from time to time.

For a sweet mare off and on out of work I am so dang proud of her and everything she does. She definitely has a fan club around the barn and man does she make pretty babies. Through we did tell her Willow was the last.

I hope you enjoy a little Dakota through the years. ❤️

We had fun taking a couple of the horses up to the cross country course yesterday. Thank you to the Alpenglow pony club for putting on a fun clinic!

I know it’s a little later but I wanted to share a little Sid update….

After a follow up with the amazing Vet team at Arctic Veterinary Mixed Animal Clinic we officially got the word to ‘let him be a horse’ again!

So Sid will be moving out of the barn and we will slowly increase his excerise.

I will say one of the highlights of my day was when Sid was let loose in the arena, took a good roll then jumped up bucking and running around a little.
Seeing him play gave me a sigh of relief I didn’t realize I’ve been holding.

Thank you to everyone who kept him in your thoughts and prayers. We sure love this big guy!

Reminder that today is the first day of our School Year Schedule! Please come to lessons at your new time this week. If you can’t remember the time just shoot me a message.

I also have a handful of returning students waiting for a confirmation on a spot for the school year. Once I am able to place them I will respond to new students. We are currently pretty full so please anticipate a wait list as I get back to folks.
We also typically don’t have a big turn over even through the winter so it may be a bit before we have spots.
