Please welcome to the Spring Creek Farm internship crew, Steven Nohren!

After moving to Anchorage in September, and a long cold winter, Steven is very ready to experience what an Alaskan summer is all about.

During their undergrad, they were introduced to how (and why) we can design our systems for a circular economy, and for degrowth.

As a SCF inten, Steven is interested in learning more about Alaskan food ways and region specific requirements and challenges for farming.

Their favorite vegetable is anything pickled.

Welcome to the team, Steven!

Meanwhile, out on Spring Creek Farm…

Staff, interns and volunteers are busy fertilizing, preparing beds for planting, moving seedlings from the greenhouse, and transplanting into the field.

05/27/2026

annual Seedling Sale is back on June 3 from 12–2 PM at both APU Main Campus in Anchorage and Kellogg Campus in Palmer.

The sale features dozens of cold-hardy vegetable and herb varieties selected for success in Alaska gardens, including broccoli, cabbage, kale, lettuce, herbs, peas, cucumbers, zucchini, and the ever-popular Sun Gold tomatoes. Most seedlings are sold in 6-packs for $6, with Sun Gold tomatoes available individually in 3” pots for $3.

Whether you’re planting your first garden bed or expanding your backyard harvest, these seedlings are a great way to support local food systems while growing food adapted to our northern climate.

Proceeds from the sale directly support Spring Creek Farm’s work in local agriculture, food security, and the education of new farmers learning regenerative and cold-climate growing practices. Through hands-on training, community partnerships, and sustainable agriculture education, Spring Creek Farm helps cultivate the next generation of growers committed to resilient food systems in Alaska.

Preregister for the best selection. Quantities are limited and will sell quickly!

Evelynn and crew from Newhalen, Cam and Amy from Tlingit&Haida, Cody from Knik Tribe, and Tony from Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District came by Kellogg Campus for a tour and then headed over to Rebarchek Farm to tour their facilities.

Across Alaska, tribes and organizations like Alaska Pacific University are working together to increase food security in our communities; foods that are both culturally relevant and sustainably grown.

Join us in welcoming intern, Elizabeth Hadden to the team!

Elizabeth joins us from California where she graduated from Cal Poly Humboldt with a bachelors in Environmental Science and Management. She is excited to begin her career and learn about sustainable farming that can support a healthy food system.

In her free time, you’ll most likely find her exploring the outdoors, baking, or crocheting. She can’t wait to help bring fresh produce to markets and connect with the community.

Welcome, Elizabeth!
