✨ Meet the Academic Advisors ✨

Behind every student is a team of people ready to help them succeed. Throughout this series, we're introducing the academic advisors who support students every step of the way.

πŸ’™ Meet Sheri V., Academic Advisor II.

πŸ’‘ One piece of advice Sheri often shares with students:
"Take it one day at a time. Focusing on each assignment as it comes can help you stay on track and avoid feeling overwhelmed."

πŸŽ“ A student she'll always remember:
Sheri worked with a student who entered UMass Global after facing academic challenges and dreamed of attending law school. Together, they created a realistic plan for success while balancing life's responsibilities. That student not only graduated but was also selected as a student commencement speaker, a milestone Sheri was proud to witness.

It's stories like these that remind us how impactful the relationship between students and their academic advisors can be. Check out Sheri's quote to learn what she enjoys most about helping students and why she's passionate about supporting them every step of the way.

πŸ“© Starting in the Fall session? Now is a great time to reconnect with your academic advisor. If you need help reconnecting with your advisor, send us a PM, and we'll point you in the right direction.

πŸŽ‰ It's Competency-Based Education Week!

At UMass Global, we're celebrating the educators who help make competency-based education a transformative experience for adult learners.

This week, we're proud to recognize Doug Perez, M.S., a faculty member in the School of Business who was nominated by Acting Dean Amy Burks-Stewart for this year's CBE Week spotlight.

Doug is passionate about helping students connect what they already know with what they want to achieve. Through competency-based education, he creates learning experiences that build on students' existing knowledge while preparing them for what's next.

πŸ’¬ β€œWhat inspires me most about teaching CBE students is the transformational impact education can have on their lives and careers.”

That perspective shapes the way Doug approaches every learner, creating meaningful experiences that meet students where they are, build on their strengths, and empower them to achieve their aspirations.

πŸ’¬ β€œI enjoy empowering them to achieve their aspirations. Seeing students realize their potential and apply what they learn in meaningful ways is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching.”

During CBE Week, we're celebrating educators like Doug who help students build on their strengths, develop new competencies, and achieve their goals.

πŸ’¬ We'd love to hear from our community. What educator has made a lasting impact on your educational or professional journey? Share your story in the comments.

πŸŽ‰ It's Competency-Based Education Week!

This week, we're celebrating the students who are proving that it's possible to earn a degree while balancing work, family, and everything life throws your way.

Meet Jocelyn James. As a full-time HR Business Partner, parent, and graduate of UMass Global's Business Administration (MyPath) BBA, she needed a program that fit her life and helped her advance her career.

"UMass Global gave me the flexibility to keep pursuing my degree while working full time, raising my family, and continuing to grow in my career."

Through MyPath's competency-based model, Jocelyn progressed by demonstrating what she knew, applied new skills directly to her work in Human Resources, and kept moving toward her goals without putting her life on hold.

Her advice for anyone considering a MyPath program?

"This program can meet you where you are while still pushing you toward where you want to go."

πŸ’¬ We'd love to hear from our MyPath community! If you're a current student or graduate, what has competency-based education made possible for you? Share your story in the comments to help us celebrate CBE Week and inspire the next generation of learners.
