Two Major Road Projects Begin....

And so it begins. Racquet Club and S Palm Canyon will finally afford cyclists and pedestrians more safety. Each road will now have 2 traffic lanes, a turning lane to keep cars moving, 2 cycling lanes and improved sidewalks and crosswalks as needed.

For S Palm Canyon, residents there will now have a safer way to cycle to downtown or access CV Link. For Racquet Club residents, their access to CV Link is safer and they can access Caballeros safely to be able to points south such as Downtown and Uptown.

If you worry about it slowing down traffic? That's the point of a road diet. Making streets safer through carefully engineered infrastructure. If you think you weren't notified? You were. Notices of public meetings went up everywhere during the design phase.

I've hit a speed bump. Quite a big one.

The Check Engine light issue — traced to a single fuel injector — has turned into a bigger deal than expected. Working with Walter at Tech-Age, my only option now is sending the PCM (the van's computer module) off for a rebuild, which will have me down for 2 weeks. Even then, there are no guarantees it'll work.

We're already working on plans B, C, and D. I'm not at the end of my rope, but the bills are adding up and I could use all the good thoughts you can spare.

(Good news: I've known Walter for 14 years and trust him completely. Bad news: I'm holding off on ordering the victory T-shirts for now.)

JMBR in the wild yesterday as this beauty got a fresh start and his owner was super happy that his Revivals find was like new again.

I also changed my set up by using my DeWalt tool bag so all the things I need are right at hand. Tomorrow the awning gets installed for shade when I can't park under a canopy.

Oh and the fairly lights are up. One must have a bit of fun....Early start today arriving at 7AM to Express Tune 2 bikes. These morning temps aren't unusual but are also unwelcome.

Time for coffee? Maybe iced?

When my old shop space became unavailable, I had a choice: sign another lease and pass that overhead on to you, or find a different way to keep bike repair honest and affordable in the Coachella Valley. I chose the road less traveled — literally.

I, with the help of a few close friends, built out a van into a full mobile repair shop, so instead of you driving your bike to me, I drive the shop to you. Same labor-only pricing I've always run — I never mark up parts — just delivered to your driveway instead of a storefront.

The van's a real shop on wheels: full workbench, tool wall, repair stand, sink, compressed air — everything a brick-and-mortar shop has, just on wheels and parked outside your house. Drop-off and pickup, same as any shop, but no drive across town and no waiting days for a slot to open up.

I come to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Cathedral City, do the work, and let you know when it's ready.

Appointments open July 13th, with a few practice runs the week before to make sure everything's dialed in.

Progress is slow but steady this week. Workbench done. Peg boards are evolving. Solar panels can generate 125 watts so on cool mornings that's more than I need. Work area AC draws 1.2kw so I can last 1.6 hours with it on and without plugging into shore power. Not bad for a small panel.

AC in the front has been replaced and is frigid again. Engine has had a full checkup. All good.

Bike stand operational. Water system ready to test.
Today Karl ties down the batteries and begins to button up. Mats have to go down.

I will install additional shelving tomorrow and bring out the 2 task kits for brakes and bleeds plus other accessories.

Thought you'd like an update on the mobile van project. i’ve completed all of the background tasks, including change of address, signage, new pricing, menus, and updating all of my insurance as well as registering the van.

Working on the interior builds now and have some pictures attached that show the new workbench installed, the electric lift installed, and then peg boards and other organizational things completed.

Rollout is expected around July 10. Stay tuned and stay excited.
