🩸 **WHAT EMT STUDENTS LEARN**

When severe bleeding occurs, every second matters.

Our EMT students learn how to **recognize and control life-threatening bleeding**, including the use of direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquets.

These are lifesaving skills that EMTs must be ready to use when it matters most. 🚑

🚑 WHAT EMT STUDENTS ARE LEARNING THIS WEEK

This week, our EMT students are learning Vital Signs & Patient Assessment—the essential measurements EMTs use to evaluate their patients.

🩺 Topic: Vital Signs
📚 Key Concepts: BP, Pulse, Respirations
🙌 Hands-On Skill: BGL & SpO₂
🚑 Real-World Impact: Detecting Change

Students are practicing blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, pupil assessment, blood glucose (BGL), and oxygen saturation (SpO₂).

These vital assessment skills help EMTs recognize changes in a patient's condition and make informed decisions about patient care.

🚑 WHAT EMT STUDENTS LEARN

This week, our EMT students are learning one of the most important parts of emergency care — Patient Assessment.

Students learn how to evaluate a patient, identify life-threatening conditions, obtain vital signs, and determine what care is needed.

It’s all about learning to recognize what’s wrong and knowing what to do next!

🚑 What are our EMT students doing with shaving cream?

This week, our EMT students are learning about Body Substance Isolation (BSI) and the importance of properly using personal protective equipment (PPE).

During this hands-on exercise, students put shaving cream on their gloves to simulate blood and other body fluids they may encounter while treating a patient. They then perform typical EMT tasks and patient-contact activities to see just how easily contamination can spread—to equipment, clothing, surfaces, and even themselves.

It’s a simple exercise with an important lesson: PPE only works when it’s used correctly. Learning how to recognize contamination, prevent cross-contamination, and safely remove protective equipment helps protect our EMTs, their patients, and everyone they come in contact with.

Another day of turning classroom lessons into real-world skills! 🚑🧤
