It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Shirley Thompson - mother of Scott Thompson, mother-in-law to Katy Thompson, grandmother to Charlie (Class of ‘28), Cooper (Class of ‘26), and Dylan (Class of ‘11), and wife of Jack Thompson, Palm Beach Day School’s former Head of School - passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9 after a long illness. Shirley will always be remembered as the consummate "mom" to all at PBDS.

When our current Head of School, , last spoke to Jack he commented in classic Thompson fashion that Shirley was certainly the more popular member of the school’s senior administration. He added, “behind every good man stands a great woman.”

According to Scott Thompson, Shirley loved the Fine Arts Festival, Field Day, hosting the Faculty and Staff holiday celebration, and planning the Ninth Grade party. Shirley also enjoyed helping to make the school Head’s residence at 237 Seabreeze Avenue an extension of the Day School campus.

Congratulations to Billi Lerro '20, a current student at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, who won for "Outstanding Scenic Design" at this weekend's Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Dream Awards! The annual awards celebrate excellence in local high school musical theater performances. Two PBDA 9th-grade graduates were also nominated for their two roles in this year's performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. 💪

We are proud to present the newest members of our Palm Beach Day Alumni - the Class of 2023! For the first time in many years, the class includes both our 8th and 9th graders as we say an extremely fond farewell to our Ninth Grade Program. We are so proud of each of these young men and women and cannot wait to have a first-row seat as we watch them change the world.

The fittingly-themed Palm Beach children’s book, coupled with Lilly’s wisdom as an author and entrepreneur, captivated our students’ attention throughout the entire presentation. Congratulations on your book, Lilly! 💛💙

The annual Mother/Daughter and Father/Son softball games traditionally signify the end of the year's athletic program. This week, our 5-9th grade girls and boys faced off against their moms and dads under the hot Florida sun, competing for their pride. Congratulations to our moms and dads who won the 5th, 6th, and 7th-grade games both days; however, we can't help but be so satisfied to see the 8th/9th grade boys and girls leave PBDA on a high note with a win!

We are incredibly proud to share the impressive list of secondary school acceptances for this year's 8th- and 9th-grade students. The soon-to-be graduates will join the ranks of our impressive PBDA alumni cohort this June and are off to do great things at some of the top schools in the state of Florida and around the world.
