🎃 Pumpkin season is here!

It might not feel like fall in Florida, but there are plenty of ways to bring the season to life!

At ZenHippo, we’re scrubbing mini pumpkins, crafting jack-o’-lanterns, and whipping up pumpkin pie play dough. 🥧

Make your own Pumpkin Pie Play Dough!

🎃 ½ cup pumpkin purée (not pie filling)
🌽 1 cup cornstarch (plus more as needed)
🍦 ½ tsp vanilla extract
🍂 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Mix everything together, adding cornstarch a little at a time until the dough is soft, smooth, and no longer sticky. Too dry? Add a little more pumpkin!

Sprinkle in some cinnamon, add mini pumpkins, wooden scoops, cinnamon sticks, and other festive loose parts, and you’ve got yourself a full-blown fall sensory experience!

Little hands, big imaginations, and all the scents of the season. 🍁

What if the screen-time problem isn’t only theirs?

We spend a lot of time worrying about how screens affect children. But research suggests our own phone habits matter, too.

When phones repeatedly interrupt play, meals and everyday conversation, children can get less responsive interaction—and may show more distress and behavior challenges.

This isn’t a call to throw away your phone. It’s a reminder to notice when it’s pulling you out of the moment.

Put it down for the meal.
Finish the story before checking the text.
Look up when they’re trying to show you something.

Small moments of attention add up.
