This was the title of the convention that brought together 150 Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform rabbis to discuss how we teach about Israel in our congregations. We had the privilege of learning from outstanding speakers such as Dara Horn and Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib. Even in the midst of so many challenges in the world—including the ongoing war in the Middle East—our community at HERJC took a moment to pause, come together, and celebrate.

Hundreds of people of all ages filled the building for a joyful and energetic Carnival, embracing this year’s theme: K-Pop Demons. The costumes were creative, the music was vibrant, and the spirit of community was stronger than ever.

Moments like these remind us that even in difficult times, joy, togetherness, and community are essential. Thank you to everyone who made this celebration so special.

A moment of gratitude and appreciation

Today I want to mark an important moment in the life of New York’s religious landscape with the resignation of Cardinal Timothy Dolan from his leadership role.

Over the years, Cardinal Dolan has been a powerful and gracious presence in the public square. Beyond his leadership within the Catholic Church, he consistently modeled what sincere interfaith partnership can look like: respectful, warm, principled, and deeply human. Our encounters and shared moments—always marked by openness, humor, and mutual respect—are ones I truly treasure.

In times of challenge and division, Cardinal Dolan never retreated from dialogue. He believed that faith leaders, even when coming from very different traditions, must stand together to defend human dignity, religious freedom, and the moral fabric of our society.

I am grateful for his years of service, for his friendship, and for the example he set for all of us engaged in interreligious work. I wish him strength, health, and blessing in this next chapter of his journey.

Four years ago, I moved to the U.S. with no SSN and no credit history.

When I finally got my SSN, no bank wanted to give me a credit card. Not because I had bad credit — but because I had no credit at all.

So I started small.
A special credit card for newly arrived immigrants.
Very low limit. No perks. Just consistency.

I used it carefully.
Paid on time.
Kept balances low.
Month after month.

Today, four years later: credit score 806.

This isn’t about bragging. It’s about patience. Building something from zero in a new country takes time — and trust in the process.

If you’re new here and feel invisible to the system: start where you can. It adds up.

Grateful for the journey 🙏
