Our middlesest (every kid deserves a superlative) moved back to college this morning, and I couldn't wait to get his room fumigated. I love having him home, but the clean out is cathartic. All my anxiety, excitement, and sadness ease with my cleaning routine.

Who else does this?

A. Wait?! The Lysol & garbage bags are in my hand before my kid's down the driveway.
B. I give the tears some time to dry; then I'm on it!
C. I'll get to it when the next overnight guests show up.
D. It'll be a shrine to them, even when they're 30 and show up with a significant other.

Yes! 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟬:𝟱𝟮𝗔𝗠. Why? I have raised 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀. All those afternoons pretending to break and covering my winces with fake coughs give me permission to eat cake at 10:52AM.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. That's why I opened my business. It’s the same reason I hired a professional driving instructor for each of my kids’ last 8 hours of driving lessons. Every now and then, it’s in our best interest to call in a professional to help.

It’s not outsourcing parenting or admitting our frailty. It’s recognizing that sometimes other people can do a better job because they specialize in a particular area. I’ve done my fair share of driving training with my kids. I experienced all the feels. And, I let a professional tidy up any of the driving test essentials I may have missed, while 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝗺𝘆 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀.

Today, when my son was nervous, I reminded him that Coach Morgan trained him and that confidence earned him a perfect score.
