90% of children who are sexually abused are harmed by someone they know and trust.

Recent headlines have shaken our community, reminding us that child sexual abuse isn't a distant threat. It happens in every neighborhood — often at the hands of family, friends, coaches, teachers, and faith leaders.

Protecting children is a community responsibility. Ask what your school or organization is doing to keep kids safe. Advocate for training and policies that put children first.

A new National Institutes of Health-funded study found that the way kids describe stressful experiences — not just what happened to them — can help predict risk for depression and anxiety years before symptoms appear.

This is precisely why early relational health and trauma-informed care are foundational to our work at Center for Child Counseling: understanding a child's inner world earlier allows us to intervene earlier, when prevention is still possible.

A new PBS series, "How Are We Today?" is helping families talk openly about mental health — offering relatable storylines alongside practical, science-backed tools for managing emotions.

At Center for Child Counseling, we believe conversations like these matter. When children feel safe, seen, and supported, it changes the trajectory of their lives. Programming that normalizes these discussions is a meaningful step toward building that kind of early relational health at home.
