As much as I would love to see the trees change colors and leaves fall, I’ve lived in Florida all my life and the leaves I see are just big palm trees. 🌴

This week’s bin was inspired by “The Leaf Thief”: a fun but educational tale about a squirrel discovering the changing seasons as he tried to find out who’s been stealing his leaves! 🍁

Sensory bin fillers: Black beans and Oats

“Leaf Soup” Water Bin 💦
with acrylic vase filler leaves and acorns

As we prepare for *testing season*, there’s a few things we can do as parents to ensure our children are prepared for the tests and accommodations are being followed as outlined in the IEP.

📚 **Preparing for State-Wide Testing with Accommodations** 📚

Here’s how you can support your child:

📝Review IEP– Confirm their accommodations listed on state-wide and district assessments. Sometimes, these may be different than school-based tests.

🏫Communicate with the School– Ensure all supports are in place and that all staff (not just the classroom teacher) are aware of the IEP accommodations

🗣️Practice Test Scenarios – Help them get comfortable with accommodations and requesting help when they need it. Preparation can make testing smoother and less stressful! 🌟📖 Get a good night’s rest and eat a big, healthy breakfast! Speak some affirmations before heading out the door.

🗓️ **Important Dates to Remember** 🗓️

As a parent of a child with special needs, staying on top of crucial school events is key to advocating for your child’s best interests. 📅 From IEP meetings to evaluations, keeping these dates organized can make a world of difference in your child’s educational journey. Here’s a handy guide to help you stay on track and prepare effectively. 📝✨

🔹 **Annual IEP Meetings**: Set reminders for these essential meetings to discuss your child’s progress and adjust their individualized plan. The expiration date is located on your current IEP.

🔹 **Eligibility (Reevaluation)**: Keep track of evaluation dates to ensure timely assessments of your child’s needs and progress. Reevals are conducted at a minimum of every 3 years.

🔹 **Progress Reports**: These will be sent home along with the standard report card. Progress reports track data from IEP goals and it is very important to review these reports so you can assess if goals need to be changed from quarter to quarter.

🔹**Standardized & Diagnostic Testing**: It’s not only important to know these dates to prepare students for the upcoming stress. It’s also good to know so you can check in and request the reports from these assessments.

📌 **Pro Tip**: Use digital calendars and reminder apps to ensure you never miss an important date. Stay organized and advocate effectively for your child’s success! 💪💖
