I hope the woman is okay. She fought hard, and that takes courage. But clips like this show a reality a lot of people in the martial arts world don’t like to talk about.
Sport jiu-jitsu and real violence are not the same thing.
If you’ve never trained against strikes, pressure, and someone trying to hurt you not score points you’re stepping into a completely different world. Techniques like triangles and arm bars can become extremely dangerous against a larger, stronger attacker when slams are a real possibility.
In a real encounter, being stuck on the bottom is rarely where you want to be. The priority should usually be creating space, sweeping, getting on top, or getting back to your feet.
This isn’t about criticizing her. She fought back, and most people freeze in moments like that. But we need to be honest about the difference between training for sport and training for violence.
They’re not the same thing.
