Here is where the challenge lies..

Whether you call it a strategy, a goal, or simply an improvement effort, any initiative you as a
leader drive in order to significantly move your team or organization forward will fall into one of
two categories: The first requires mainly a stroke of the pen; the second requires behavioral
change.

Stroke-of-the-pen strategies are those that you execute just by ordering or authorizing them to
be done. Simply put, if you have the money and the authority, you can make them happen. It
might be a major capital investment, a change in the compensation system, a realignment of roles
and responsibilities, adding staff, or a new advertising campaign. While executing these strategies
may require planning, consensus, guts, brains, and money, you know that in the end it is going to
happen.

Behavioral-change strategies are very different from stroke-of-the-pen strategies. You can’t
just order them to happen, because executing them requires getting people—often a lot of people
—to do something different. And if you’ve ever tried to get other people to change their ways, you
know how tough it is. Changing yourself is hard enough.

Stroke of Pen:
- Capital Investment
- Expansion of Staff
- Process Change
- Strategic Acquisition
- Media Buy
- Change in product mix

Behavioral Change:
- Improved Customer Experience
- Higher Quality
- Faster Responsiveness
- Operational Consistency
- Reduced Cost Overruns

Which should you use, the xlookup or the vlookup?

My go to used to be the vlookup, before the xlookup function was released. It is the most commonly used formula in my spreadsheets. In big data sheets, it is essential to have the capability to return bits of needed data. And although both are capable of doing just that, the vlookup is ultimately more limited vs the xlookup.

Vlookup:
- Lookup value must be in the first column of the table array

- 4 parameters

- Columns must stay the same or the formula would have to be rewritten

Xlookup:
- Can search on the left or right of the array containing the look up value

- 3 parameters

- Columns can be re-arranged without interfering with the formula

Tell me about your relationship with Microsoft Excel..?

If you're anything like me, a cheat sheet is essential. Here we have a simple screen tour of the front page to Excel!

I love this because it is simple, quick, and to the point.

Tell me if you are the same as me 🤪

When I started my career in corporate America, I had the greatest ideas to streamline and mitigate issues. However, I did not know any idea on how to execute them. I was unorganized, and important parts of my projects were falling through the cracks. I was a mess!

One of my mentors suggested I take a course on time management. I was a little bit insulted to tell you the truth. I did not let my mentor know that, though! I put my pride aside and I took the course. To my surprise, I learned a lot and began to notice that everyone around me was using their own preferred method of time management. I had no idea that these methods even existed.

There are so many methods, however, these are a couple of my favorites. I use these on a daily basis, depending on my project.

- Waterfall Method
- DMAIC
- Agile Method
- Kanban Method
- Six Sigma

I cannot work on Excel without making my data into a table. 😅

When I first started using Excel, I actually found this feature by accident. I thought I messed up my huge data dump and did not know what to do! After playing around with my new table, I realized how much better and easier it is to use the table versus not using tables. Now, I ALWAYS make all my data, big or small, into a table.

What is an Excel Table?

In Excel 2007, and later versions, you can use the Table command to convert a list of data into a formatted Excel Table. Tables have many features, such as sorting and filtering, that will help you organize and view your data.

Some advantages of using a table:
- Structured referencing
- Table styles
- Use of a Total Row
- Dropdown lists
- Headers replace the Column Letters
- Remove Duplicate Rows automatically
- Summarize the Table with a Pivot Table
- Supports calculated Columns

If you were looking for a sign, here it is. ⭐

Excel is likely one of the most underrated programs out there. It is absolutely brilliant and Microsoft continues to add features.

Did you know that Excel came out in 1985?

The first time I used Microsoft Excel, I was in 5th grade. I was assigned homework for my language class and was asked to put my "spelling words" in alphabetical order. Well, I had learned my ABC's a long time ago, and I just wanted to get this homework over with, so I used excel to alphabetize my words for me!

Work smarter, not harder my friends!

Understanding Pivot Tables!

Learning about pivots in Microsoft Excel, is a major game changer here. I was able save several hours of work just by using this amazing tool.

I always say, once you start pivoting, you will never stop.

I sometimes catch myself using a pivot table for even the smallest of details and I still learn more about my data.
