Experience the Music of ‘Roman Festivals’
Kreines Wind Orchestra spring concert is March 8 in Titusville
Titusville’s newest musical organization is ready for its second concert under the baton of James Bishop, former Director of Instrumental Music at Eastern Florida State College. On Sunday, March 8 at 3:30 PM, The Joseph Kreines Tribute Wind Ensemble will present Roman Festivals at Park Avenue Baptist Church, 2600 S. Park Avenue in Titusville. The 65-member wind orchestra is dedicated to the musical legacy of the late Joseph Kreines and will begin the concert with a work by Kreines’ favorite composer, Percy Grainger. The “Children’s March” is an upbeat piece for concert band that features a prominent piano part, performed by Norman McCorvey, Choral Director for Space Coast Jr. Sr. High School. Grainger’s innovative instrumentation focuses on lower voiced instruments and also calls on band members to sing several passages! The single-movement “Fantasy of Colors” follows, a 2025 musical composition for wind ensemble by American composer Paul Dooley. Titusville High School Band Director, Ian Schwindt will step to the podium for the vibrant, modern piece inspired by Baroque-era art and music in the style of Bach and Mozart. Joe Kreines’ own transcription of Franck's "Psyché et Éros," presents the popular fourth movement from César Franck’s 1887 symphonic poem, Psyché. The lush and romantic work will showcase the Kreines Wind Orchestra’s tonal colors and musicality. At the concert’s centerpiece is an arrangement of Ottorino Respighi's Feste Romane (Roman Festivals), a tone poem in four movements. The powerful work depicts scenes of celebration from ancient and modern Rome and remains popular due to its vivid and energetic storytelling and colorful orchestration. The Roman Festivals concert is free with no ticket required and no reserve seating.
