Stop waiting to feel motivated to walk.

Sometimes, walking is what helps create the momentum you’ve been waiting for.

In EP41, Frank Ring explores a simple idea:

Movement first. Motivation second.

If you’ve been overthinking your fitness, waiting for the perfect Monday, or struggling to get started again, this episode is for you.

**Does a walk really need to last 30 minutes to count?**

No—and believing that it does can sometimes keep you from walking at all.

Maybe you only have 10 minutes today.

Take the walk.

Maybe you’re rebuilding your fitness and 20 minutes feels right.

Great.

Maybe 30 minutes has become comfortable and repeatable.

Keep going.

In Episode 49 of the *Walking for Health and Fitness Podcast*, I share the **10-20-30 Walking Duration Ladder** and explain how to choose a walking time based on where you are right now.

**The best walk isn’t necessarily the longest one. It’s the one you can recover from, repeat, and gradually build upon.**

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with **Ana Rita Valente** for an interview on **Becoming Legendary**.

We talked about walking, prostate cancer, recovery, rebuilding strength and confidence, and what happens when life suddenly interrupts the plan.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that rebuilding rarely happens through one dramatic moment.

It happens through small actions.

Getting up.
Going outside.
Taking the next step.
Doing it again tomorrow.

Walking began as exercise for me, but over time it became something much more — a way to rebuild health, momentum, confidence, and a sense of control over what came next.

I’m looking forward to sharing this conversation with you.

One of the most important questions you can ask after a week of walking is not:

“Could I have done more?”

Ask yourself:

“Can I realistically repeat this schedule next week?”

That’s one of my Green-Light Questions from the 3-4-5 Walking Plan.

If you walked three days and finished the week feeling good, recovering well, and confident you could do it again—that’s progress.

You may be ready for a fourth day.

But if three days left you exhausted, sore, or dreading another walk, there’s nothing wrong with repeating three.

A walking plan only works if you can keep walking.

What’s your answer today: YES, I can repeat it—or NOT YET?

How many days a week should you walk after 50?
Three? Four? Five? Every day?

One of the biggest mistakes people make when restarting a walking routine is choosing a schedule based on where they think they should be instead of where their body and fitness level are today.

That can lead to soreness, fatigue, missed walks—and eventually stopping again.

In my new episode of the Walking for Health and Fitness Podcast, I introduce my 3-4-5 Walking Plan:

Start with 3.
Progress to 4.
Build toward 5.

You’ll also learn how to use the Green-Light Questions to decide when you’re ready to add another walking day and the One-Change Rule so you don’t increase frequency, duration, and intensity all at once.

The goal isn’t to create the most impressive walking schedule.

The goal is to create one you can repeat next week.

t’s Friday.

And this is exactly when a lot of walking plans begin to disappear.

The routine changes. You sleep a little later. Plans come up. One missed walk becomes two.

Then Monday arrives and you tell yourself, “I need to start again.”

Here’s my challenge for you this weekend:

Don’t wait until Monday.

Take five comfortable minutes today or tomorrow and simply walk.

No step goal.
No pace goal.
No trying to make up for what you missed.

Just five minutes.

In Episode 47, I teach the Three-R Restart System: Reframe. Reduce. Repeat.

Reframe: “My routine was interrupted. I’m restarting.”
Reduce: Make the first walk easy enough to do today.
Repeat: Decide when you’re walking again before the weekend ends.

Remember:

A missed day is a gap—not a collapse.

Make this the weekend you stop waiting for the perfect Monday and start creating momentum right now.

And before you step out the door, tell yourself:

“This is not a test. This is my return.”

Missing a few walks does not mean you failed.

It means your routine was interrupted.

That distinction matters.

When people tell themselves, “I quit again,” they often feel discouraged, guilty, and reluctant to restart.

Try replacing that thought with:

“My walking routine was interrupted, and today I am restarting.”

You are not beginning from zero.

You are returning with experience.

That simple reframe removes the pressure to make up for lost time. It allows you to focus on the only walk you can take—the next one.

In Episode 47 of the Walking for Health and Fitness Podcast, I teach the Three-R Restart System:

Reframe. Reduce. Repeat.

Stopped walking and struggling to begin again?

You may not need more motivation.

You may need a better restart system.

Episode 47 teaches adults over 50 how to restart using three simple steps:

âś… Reframe the interruption
âś… Reduce the first walk to five minutes
âś… Repeat by planning the next walk

You will also learn how to use the Three-Walk Restart Ladder, reduce the friction of getting out the door, and record small wins that rebuild confidence.

Do not wait until Monday.

Your next chapter can begin with five minutes today.
