🍎 Kindergarten Readiness Tip: Lunchroom Independence
Did you know lunchtime is a learning opportunity? Kindergarteners do more than eat—they build confidence, responsibility, and independence. Practicing simple skills at home like opening containers, unwrapping food, carrying a tray, and cleaning up after meals can help make your child's transition to kindergarten smoother and set them up for success from day one.

🧸 Kindergarten Readiness: Cleaning Up 🧸

Kindergarten classrooms are shared spaces where children learn and grow together. Practicing simple cleanup habits at home, like putting toys away, cleaning up after activities, and taking care of supplies - helps build responsibility and independence.

These skills are not required for students to start kindergarten, but practicing them at home every day can make a big difference in helping your child feel more confident and ready for school.

💛 Big feelings are a big part of growing up! Before kindergarten begins, practicing emotional skills at home can help children feel more confident, build friendships, and handle new situations more successfully.

Families can help by practicing simple skills like:
✔️ Taking deep breaths
✔️ Asking for help
✔️ Using words to express feelings
✔️ Waiting their turn

Together, we can help our youngest learners feel ready for kindergarten! 🌟

We can’t wait to meet our incoming kindergarteners next year! Visit d51schools.org/kinderready to learn more about kinder readiness!

Now that we've celebrated and sent off the Class of 2026, it's time to focus on our incoming learners!

Kindergarten classrooms are full of activity, learning, and transitions throughout the day. Practicing how to listen and follow simple directions at home can help children feel more confident and ready for success in the classroom.

Try practicing simple routines like:
🧸 “Please put your toys away.”
🚪 “Let’s line up by the door.”
🧹 “It’s time to clean up.”

These small habits help make classroom routines easier to navigate and build independence along the way! 💙🍎
