Day 2 started with the Second General Session. We then went to tour K-State’s Veterinary Medicine program and learned about what it takes to get into and succeed in vet school.

This afternoon we had the opportunity to tour Booth Creek Wagyu! We toured their ranch, feedlot, and the retail store in Manhattan. We were able to celebrate National Brisket Day with a sample of their delicious brisket! Big thank you to BCW and Dani Hartung for giving us this wonderful experience!

Tonight, we attended Ignite the Night at the KSU Rec Center where our kids competed in the dodgeball tournament and other fun activities. They did a great job and won 7 straight games before getting out!

Rod and Lisa Marcotte spent the last decade looking for a young person they could teach to farm their land. Their long search ended last August with the help of the newly established Northwest Kansas Agricultural Education Center, a nonprofit organization located on USD 269’s Palco Junior-Senior High campus. Learn more in the May issue of Northwest Kansas Today.

Today, the Plant & Animal Science class had the opportunity to visit Whisman Red Angus and learn about cattle genetics, EPD’s, and what to look for when selecting bulls or heifers. We were able to see both their commercial and registered cattle and connect what we’ve been learning in class to a real world situation.

Thank you so much to Geoff and Gregg Whisman for letting us visit and sharing their time and knowledge with us!

Thanks to the incredibly generous donation from the Winter family, we now have a 1680 combine with an 8 row corn header and 30 ft rigid head, a disk, 800 Cyclo Planter, and John Deere 9300 drill with a liquid fertilizer setup.

Thank you so much to Vic and Joan Winter for taking an interest in our program and helping to better prepare our students for the future!
