Today was Maria Montessori's birthday, and so, we spare a thought and immense gratitude to the lady who did so much to create a peaceful world and progress in humanity, both during and outside of her life.

We are committed to continuing her legacy guiding children to their true and full potential and training anyone who has an interest or feels touched in any way by her teachings and wisdom.

Inspired by the geography focus of the AMI EAA summer conference, we’ve freshened up our geography shelves with Agate book ends. The classroom is almost ready for our students to return!

We’ve spruced up our elementary science supply shelf this summer. Can’t wait to see the students in just a few weeks!

It was a beautiful end to a beautiful year. The elementary children planned an adventure to Wisconsin tying together many of their research projects throughout the year. This tradition gets better every year as the children hone their research and planning skills. We will miss you all this summer, and will be counting down the days until we see each other again! Wishing everyone a restful summer.

Celebrate Mother's Day by helping children find their own way.

"My vision of the future is... individuals passing from one stage of independence to a higher, by means of their own activity."

This vision reminds us that children are hard-wired to grow and learn. They don't need us to do everything for them; they need us to give them the tools to do it themselves. Whether it’s a toddler learning to put on their own shoes or an adolescent managing a complex project, that "effort of will" is what builds their character.

When we support a child's independence, we are supporting their "inner evolution." It takes patience and a lot of observing, but seeing a child beam with the pride of "I did it myself" makes it all worth it.

Some of our elementary students have researched the Timeline of Life by creating their own timeline and researching the different animal and plant life that lived during each period from the Cambrian to the present. They learned to take bullet point notes and present based on those notes. Their final stop will be a "going out" to the Field Museum to walk through the "Evolving Planet" exhibit and see the evolution from single-celled organisms to modern biodiversity.
